Dawgs down Bulls in first game of season's final homestand

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Lethbridge Bulls 9-7 in front of 4,852 fans at Seaman Stadium on Tuesday night.

With the win, the Dawgs improve to 36-14 on the season. They sit in second place in the Western Canadian Baseball League West Division standings, two games behind the Sylvan Lake Gulls.

Jarrett Burney (Reinhardt University) led the way offensively for the Dawgs, extending his hitting streak to nine games, with his 3-for-5 performance.

Alejandro Cazorla (Okotoks, Alta.) also had three hits, including a game-tying solo home run in the sixth.

Logan Grant (Chestermere, Alta.) and Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.) also chipped in with two hits and an RBI each for the Dawgs.

On the mound, Blake Crippen (Bellevue University) started and allowed six runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Gavin Wuschke (Regina, SK), who got the win, and Zane Morrison (Campbellsville University) followed with scoreless innings, with Morrison striking out the side in his single inning of work.

Ashton Luera (Oklahoma Wesleyan University) struck the side in the ninth to collect his sixth save of the season.

The Dawgs are back at Seaman Stadium on Wednesday to take on the Fort McMurray Giants.
