The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Fort McMurray Giants 16-7 at Seaman Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Fort McMurray Giants 16-7 in front of 5,099 fans at Seaman Stadium on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Dawgs improve to 37-14 on the season and sit in second place in the Western Canadian Baseball League’s West Division, two games behind the Sylvan Lake Gulls.

Shortstop Brendan Lawson (Mississauga, Ont.) had four hits - including a double - and three RBIs to lead the way offensively for the Dawgs.

Aidan Rose (Calgary, Alta.), Logan Grant (Chestermere, Alta.) and Jarrett Burney (Reinhart University) each added two hits. Grant also knocked in a pair of runs.

Every Dawgs starter had at least one hit in the club’s 16-run outburst.

On the mound, veteran left-hander Graham Brunner (Sherwood Park, Alta.) started and struck out five in four scoreless innings to earn his fourth win of the season.

Easton Corey (Linn-Benton Community College) was another standout on the mound for the Dawgs. He struck out the side in the eighth inning.

The Dawgs will play the Giants again on Thursday night at Seaman Stadium.
