The Okotoks Dawgs lost 9-8 to the Medicine Hat Mavericks in front of 4,815 fans on Teacher Appreciation Night at Seaman Stadium on Friday.

It was the Dawgs’ second consecutive loss, which dropped their season record to 18-4.

Logan Grant (Chestermere, Alta.) led the Dawgs with four hits - including two triples - and three runs, while Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) homered and doubled and had two RBIs out of the leadoff spot. Centre fielder Kadyn Williams (Emporia State University) also had two hits for the Dawgs.

On the mound, Troy Benko (Mesa Community College) started and struck out the side in the first inning. He eventually allowed three runs in four innings. The Dawgs then used six relievers with Aaron Hammer (Campbellsville University), Zane Morrison (Campbellsville University) and Trent Warstler (Emporia State University) each pitching at least one scoreless inning.

The Dawgs will face the Mavericks again on Saturday at Seaman Stadium.
