The Dawgs edged the Brooks Bombers 12-11 on Wednesday night at Elks Stadium to earn their eighth straight win to begin the season.

Lou Anderson (Montreal, Que., Howard Community College) got the team off to a good start, crushing a two-run home run in the second. Three innings later, Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta., University of Montevallo) followed suit with a solo homer. With the home run, Crowson extended his hitting streak to seven games.

Ricky Sanchez (Lamar University), Jason Arriola (University of Colorado Pueblo) and Josh DeGroot (Mesa Community College) added two hits each for the Dawgs.

A strong performance by the Dawgs’ bullpen was the difference on Wednesday. Seven relievers combined to strike out 11 Bombers batters and hold them to three runs over the final 7 1/3 innings.

Brody Forno (Okotoks, Alta., Oklahoma Wesleyan University) earned the win after he entered the game in the second and struck out five batters over the next 2 2/3 innings. Trent Warstler (Emporia State University) got the final three outs to register the save.

The Dawgs hit the road on Friday to take on the Lethbridge Bulls at Spitz Stadium. They will then return to Seaman Stadium on Sunday to battle the Bulls on “Princess in the Park” day.
