Regina, Sask. - The Okotoks Dawgs were edged 8-7 by the Regina Red Sox in front of 1,140 fans at Currie Field on Friday night.
With the loss, the Dawgs’ record falls to 34-13. They sit in second place in the Western Canadian Baseball League West Division standings, a game-and-a-half behind the Sylvan Lake Gulls.
Tucker Zdunich (High River, Alta.) led the Dawgs’ offence with four hits - including a home run and a double - and two RBIs.
Ricardo Sanchez (Lamar University) added two hits and two RBIs for the Dawgs.
On the mound, right-hander Brock Townsend (Bellevue University) started and surrendered five runs in five innings.
Zane Morrison (Campbellsville University) was the Dawgs’ most effective reliever, tossing a scoreless 1 1/3 innings.
Ashton Luera (Oklahoma Wesleyan University) was saddled with the loss when he surrendered the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.
The Dawgs continue their road trip on Saturday when they take on the Saskatoon Berries for the first time.
