The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Fort McMurray Giants 4-2 on Tuesday night to win the first-round series.

They will now move on to face the Sylvan Lake Gulls in the second round.

The Dawgs swept the best-of-three series, allowing only two runs in two games.

Offensively, Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) led the way, going 2-for-4 with an RBI to extend his hitting streak to 19 games.

Ricky Sanchez contributed a hit, a run and drove in three for the Dawgs, while Trent Lenihan (White Rock, B.C.) added a hit and an RBI.

On the mound, Logan Rumberg (Okotoks, Alta.) started and allowed just two runs, while striking out three, in six innings. The Dawgs then turned to their bullpen for the final three innings, deploying Cade Herrmann, Seth Thompson (Calgary, Alta.), and Dustin Schorie who combined to allow just one hit, while racking up four strikeouts. Schorie was awarded the save.

The Dawgs are back in action on Friday when they begin the West Finals against the Sylvan Lake Gulls at Seaman Stadium. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
