The Okotoks Dawgs snapped a three-game losing streak with a convincing 11-1 win over the Medicine Hat Mavericks at Athletic Park on Tuesday night.

After allowing a run to the Mavericks in the first inning, starter Jared Spearing would dominate, surrendering just four hits in six innings to improve his record to 3-2 on the year.

The Mavericks jumped out to a 1-0 before the Dawgs tied the game in the third inning on a Will Hollis sacrifice fly and then took the lead on an RBI double from University of Houston product Brett Esau.

WCBL batting average leader Tristan Peters following with an RBI single in the fourth to make the score 3-1.

The following inning, Bellevue University catcher and Calgary, Alta. native JT Patterson socked a two-run home run, his second of the season, to extend the Dawgs’ lead to four runs.

With the score 5-1 heading into the ninth, the Dawgs would add six more runs thanks to an RBI single from Indiana State’s Dane Tofteland, a two-run homer by Hollis, a bases-loaded walk, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Oregon State prospect Jacob Melton.

The Dawgs will now travel back to Seaman Stadium to play a make-up game from the July 31st against these same Mavericks.
