MOOSE JAW, Sask. — The Okotoks Dawgs scored three runs in the 11th inning to defeat the Moose Jaw Miller Express 5-2 on Wednesday night at Ross Wells Park.
Richard Mascarenas (Linn-Benton Community College) sent a hot shot at third basemen John Prudhom. Prudhom committed an error and allowed the winning run to score in Collin Ridout (Tennessee Wesleyan University).
Next up was Ryan Humeniuk (Indian Hills Community College), who singled in Mascarenas and Nate DeChaine (Morningside College).
Tannar Galey pitched 1 2/3 innings for the Miller Express (18-19) and didn’t allow an earned run but stuck with his second loss of the season.
Craig Smith came on in the bottom of the 11th to collect his 11th save as the Dawgs (25-12) improved to 2-2 in extra innings this season.
The Dawgs got off to a rough start in the first. After leaving the bases loaded in the top half, an error by Mascarenas allowed Eric Marriott and Geordie McDougall to score.
Brock Townsend (Linn-Benton Community College) regrouped after the first to complete five innings, struck out eight and allowed two earned runs.
Jared Spearing (Dawgs Academy) took over for Townsend in the six and pitched two scoreless innings, highlighted by striking out the side in the seventh.
Jesse Coleman (Weber International University) backed up Spearing’s outing by chucking three scoreless innings to take the Dawgs into the 11th and hung on for his third win.
Mitchell Robinson was effective despite giving up nine hits through seven innings for the Miller Express, as he struck out eight and kept the Dawgs off the board until the seventh.
In the seventh, catcher Cole MacLaren (University of Pittsburgh) led the inning off with a walk and came around to score on a fielder’s choice by Will Hollis (Cisco College). Next up was the Dawgs leader in RBIs in DeChaine and he promptly singled to score Ridout to tie it 2-2 on his 37th RBI of the season.
