The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Sylvan Lake Gulls 10-4 on Tuesday in front of 1,550 fans at Gulls Stadium to win their WCBL West Division Finals series and advance to the league finals.

The Dawgs will now have the opportunity to win a third consecutive WCBL championship.

The Dawgs’ eight-run, fourth inning provided the bulk of their offence.

Hometown heroes Alejandro Cazorla (Okotoks, Alta.) and Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.) led the Dawgs offence. Both went 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Ricky Sanchez (Lamar University) added two doubles and four RBIs, while Caleb Lumbard (Regina, Sask.), Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) and Logan Grant (Chestermere, Alta.) each contributed two hits each.

On the mound, Brock Townsend (Bellevue University) started and allowed just one earned run in four innings.

Ryan McFarland (Calgary, Alta.) relieved Townsend and tossed a scoreless fifth to earn the win.

Aaron Hammer (Campbellsville University), Zane Morrison (Campbellsville University), and Gavin Wuschke (Regina, Sask.) followed McFarland and threw scoreless innings.

The Dawgs will return to Seaman Stadium on Thursday for Game 1 of the WCBL Championship Finals to take on the Moose Jaw Miller Express, the East Division champions.
