Dawgs rout Cardinals 18-2

The Okotoks Dawgs ran their record to 4-0 on their current six-game road trip with an 18-2 rout of the Yorkton Cardinals.

The Dawgs (32-10) picked up their ninth win of the season when scoring 10 or more runs and improved their win streak to five overall.

Crowder College hurler Graham Brunner started for the Dawgs and allowed two runs on four hits while striking six in six innings to improve his record to 3-1 on the season.

UBC infielder Jaxon Valcke, University of Nebraska shortstop Shay Schanaman and future Oregon State outfielder Jacob Melton homered for the Dawgs, while six different Okotoks players contributed RBIs.

Valcke led the charge on offence with five RBIs, while Husker product Schanaman and Bellevue University DH Riley Baasch had three each.

The Dawgs tallied four runs in the first inning and added five more in the second to take a commanding 9-1 lead. Seven more Dawgs’ runs crossed the plate in the six and seventh innings to put the game out of reach.

Russell Rockwell, Alex Jones and Andrew Yates each contributed a scoreless inning in relief to close out the win for the Dawgs.

The series will resume on Tuesday with the first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. in Yorkton.
