Fort McMurray, Alta. - The Okotoks Dawgs shut out the Fort McMurray Giants 9-0 at Legacy Dodge Field on Friday night.

With the victory, the Dawgs are now 15-2 and have won the first two games of the series.

Multiple Dawgs players hit home runs on Friday, led by Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.), who belted his seventh home run of the season to put the Dawgs on the board in the third. Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) clubbed his first home run of the season in the ninth, as part of his 2-for-4 performance. This was followed by Logan Grant (Chestermere, Alta.) who crushed his first round-tripper of the summer.

Jacob Wrubleski (Okotoks, Alta.) also had a strong performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.

On the mound, Troy Benko (Mesa Community College) started and tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits. The Dawgs’ bullpen also held the Giants off the scoreboard, highlighted by Brody Forno (Okotoks, Alta.) and Seth Thompson (Calgary, Alta.) who struck out a combined five batters in two innings of work. Quinn Tocheniuk (Okotoks, Alta.) and Aaron Hammer (Campbellsville University) also contributed scoreless innings.

The Dawgs will continue their four-game road trip in Fort McMurray on Saturday.

Seaman Stadium, however, will be hosting a Futures Game on Saturday that will see the Dawgs Academy’s 17-18 year-old-teams, Red and Black, play against each other. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and fans are encouraged to come cheer on their future Dawgs players.

The Dawgs return to Seaman Stadium on June 25 to face the Sylvan Lake Gulls.
