OKOTOKS, Alta. — The Okotoks Dawgs blanked the Yorkton Cardinals 12-0 on Sunday afternoon at Seaman Stadium.

It was the second time the Dawgs (24-10) have shutout a team this season. The Dawgs have now won nine in a row.

The Dawgs grabbed the lead in the first inning when Nate DeChaine (Morningside College) scored Collin Ridout (Tennessee Wesleyan University) on a single and Ryan Humeniuk (Indian Hills Community College) scored Eddie Sanchez (Central Arkansas University) with a sacrifice fly in front of 3,469 fans.

In the third, the Dawgs stole three bases and added two more runs when Humeniuk singled in DeChaine and Ridout.

The Dawgs blew it open in the sixth with five runs. J.T. Patterson (Bellevue University) scored Abdiel Alicea (Tabor College), Marcus Skundrich (Mesa Community College) scored Mascarenas on a sacrifice fly, Sanchez drilled an automatic double that scored Richard Mascarenas (Linn-Benton Community College) and second basemen Collin Kellington committed an error that allowed Brandon Sparks (Bellevue University) and Sanchez to score.

In the seventh, Mascarenas circled the bases for the first inside-the-park home run for the Dawgs this season. Ridout also drove in a pair of runs with a single to centre.

Mason Swegarden (Mayville State University) was brilliant in his seventh start of the season. He went seven innings, only allowed three hits and struck out six, as his record improved to 5-0. After leaving the mound in the seventh, Swegarden moved to centre field and went 0-for-1 at the plate.

Cardinals starter Harrison Grow got lit up for seven earned runs in 5 1/3 innings and struck out five. His record dropped to 1-4.

The Cardinals are now 8-25.
