Okotoks Dawgs

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Moose Jaw Miller Express 5-2 on Thursday night at Ross Wells Park to sweep the two-game series.

The Dawgs (26-12) started with a bang when Collin Ridout (Tennessee Wesleyan University) homered on the first pitch of the game. The centre fielder went 3-for-5 and finished a triple shy of the cycle. He now has two home runs on the season.

In the second, Ryan Humeniuk (Indian Hills Community College) led off with a single, stole second and third, and was driven in by J.T. Patterson (Bellevue University). Humeniuk went on to set a season high with three stolen bases.

The Miller Express (18-20) answered in the third when Blake Gallagher drove home Eric Marriott.

Dawgs starter Carter Robinson (Mesa Community College) was cruising along until the fifth when he surrendered a solo home run to Markus Gregson, which tied it at two. Robinson eventually went six innings, allowed two runs and struck out six, as he improved to 4-2.

The Dawgs picked up their starter when Eddie Sanchez (Central Arkansas University) singled to leadoff the sixth and was followed up by a triple from Will Hollis (Cisco College). Next up was Abdiel Alicea (Tabor College), and he drove home Hollis with a sacrifice fly.

Jesse Marks was the pitcher that absorbed all of the damage for the Miller Express, as he went six innings, allowed four earned runs and only struck out one batter. His record now sits at 1-3.

In the ninth, the Dawgs tacked on an insurance run when Nate DeChaine pinch-hit and scored Richard Mascarenas (Linn-Benton Community College) with a sacrifice fly.

Craig Smith (Columbia College) came on in the bottom half and recorded the save for the second-straight evening. His 12th save of the year also moved him within one of the team record for saves in a single season.
