OKOTOKS, Alta. — The Okotoks Dawgs downed the Medicine Hat Mavericks 10-2 in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday at Seaman Stadium.

The Dawgs (33-12) used some small ball in the second to put up a pair of runs. After a Nate DeChaine (Morningside College) double, Richard Mascarenas (Linn-Benton Community College) reached on a bunt single. DeChaine scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Humeniuk (Indian Hills Community College) and Mascarenas scored on a hit-and-run play by Brandon Sparks (Bellevue University) after he stole second and third.

The Mavericks (36-9) answered in the top of the third when Jaxson Hoogie scored on an error to Mascarenas and Sal Rodriguez singled to drive in Carson Johnson.

The Dawgs blew it open in the bottom of the third with six runs. Mascarenas used a safety squeeze to drive in Eddie Sanchez (Central Arkansas University), J.T. Patterson (Bellevue University) used 10-pitch at bat to earn the bases loaded RBI walk, Cole MacLaren (University of Pittsburgh) ripped a two-run double down the left field line and Sparks singled up the middle to plate another pair.

Jaymon Cerventes only lasted three innings for the Mavericks and was on the hook for eight earned runs. He didn’t strikeout anyone, as his record fell to 2-2.

Carter Robinson (Mesa Community College) worked five innings for the Dawgs, allowed no earned runs and struck out five. He is now 5-2 on the season.

The Dawgs added a pair of runs in the sixth when Sanchez scored on a passed ball and DeChaine singled to drive in Dawgs Academy product Ayden Makarus.

Brock Townsend (Linn-Benton Community College) appeared in relief and worked three perfect innings, striking out four.
