The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Sylvan Lake Gulls 10-5 in the first game of their best-of-three Western Canadian Baseball League West Final on Friday night at Seaman Stadium.

The Dawgs’ offence recorded 10 hits in the game.

Trent Lenihan (White Rock, B.C.) led the way offensively, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. But it was Alejandro Cazorla (Okotoks, Alta.) who got things started for the Dawgs when he launched a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning.

Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) also homered for the Dawgs to extend his hitting streak to 20 games, while Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.) added two hits and notched his first RBI of the playoffs.

On the mound, Brock Townsend started and allowed three runs on seven hits, while striking out two, in five innings.

The Dawgs will now travel to Sylvan Lake to battle the Gulls in game 2 of the series on Saturday. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
