Dawgs trounce Bombers to earn series sweep

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Brooks Bombers 14-2 on Tuesday night, effectively punching their ticket to the West Finals.

The Dawgs got off to a hot start, scoring seven runs in the first two innings to create a comfortable lead that they wouldn’t relinquish.

The Dawgs were led offensively by Ricky Sanchez who went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and scored two runs. McCoy Pearce (Kamloops, B.C.) had an impactful game, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scoring three runs before being replaced in the ninth. Alejandro Cazorla (Okotoks, Alta.), Micah McDowell (Kentville, N.S.), Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.), Jacob Morrow and Tucker Zdunich (High River, Alta.) each contributed an RBI in the Dawgs’ Game 2 victory.

Bobby Vath turned in a solid performance on the mound, allowing only two earned runs, while striking out eight, in 6 2/3 innings. Relief efforts from Cade Herrmann, Rylan Penner (Blumenort, Man.) and Quinn Tocheniuk (Okotoks, Alta.) helped to shut down the Bombers bats and secure the sweep.

The Dawgs will host the Sylvan Lake Gulls at Seaman Stadium on Friday for Game 1 of the West Finals
