By Hunter Julius
OKOTOKS, AB – The Okotoks Dawgs (20-10) came away with a late 4-2 win over the Edmonton Prospects (17-12) on Saturday.
The game was a pitcher’s duel through the first six innings, with seven hits and two runs being produced, with both runs belonging to Edmonton.
The Dawgs got hot in the home half of the seventh, as Matt Lloyd (University of Indiana) singled to start the rally. A walk from Justin King (Indian Hills CC) and a single from Zach Hanna (University of Missouri) loaded the bases. Cameron Campbell helped produce the first run of the game for Okotoks, as he fought for a walk to score Lloyd to make it 2-1. With two outs, Joel Brophy (Niagara University) took a fast ball to the center field wall for a bases clearing double to give the Dawgs their winning 4-2 score.
Chris Horvath (Wayne State University) got the start and earned a no decision in his 6 1/3 innings of work. Horvath allowed six hits, two runs, two walks and four strikeouts. Taylor Davis (Gonzaga University) pitched 2/3 of an inning and picked up his first win of the year. Corey Jackson (New Mexico Junior College) then pitched 1/3 of an inning to set the stage for Tyler Burdett (Dixie State University) who got the final five outs, striking out two en route to his ninth save of the season.
