Dawgs win, set single-season wins mark

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Bronx Bombers Friday night 10-5, breaking the WCBL single-season record for most wins in a season.

The Dawgs hit the historic 42-win milestone in the final regular season game at Seaman Stadium and head into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed with a record of 42-13 with one game remaining.

Julian Tymochko (Etobicoke, Ont.) started on the mound, tossing two innings and finishing with four strikeouts before being replaced. Relief efforts from Rylan Penner (Blumenort, Man.), Quinn Tocheniuk (Okotoks, Alta.), Cade Herrmann and Matt Wilkinson (Okotoks, Alta.) helped to shut down the Bombers bats as the game progressed. Jackson Fraser (Buena Vista, Sask.) earned the victory on Friday night improving to 2-2 on the season.

The Dawgs were led offensively by McCoy Pearce (Kamloops, B.C.) who went 3-for-5 and finished with four RBIs and two doubles. Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.) had an impactful game going 3-for-3, doubling twice and adding one RBI. Ricky Sanchez and Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) both had multi-hit games with Sanchez adding two RBIs.

The Dawgs will travel to Brooks for their final game of the season on Saturday before starting the playoffs on Monday. Game 1 of the West Semis will be hosted at Seaman Stadium with the opponent still to be determined as the WCBL season wraps up this weekend.
