Right-hander Cédric De Grandpré was one of the best relievers in the national junior college ranks last season, but on Friday, he started the season opener for Chipola College in Florida.
And the Canadian hurler was impressive, giving up just one run on one hit, while striking out four, in four innings.
The right-hander from Saint-Simon, Que., was dominant through the first three innings before allowing his only run in the fourth after permitting a leadoff double.
The Canadian righty exited after that frame with his club leading 4-1 over College of Central Florida. De Grandpré was credited with the win in Chipola College’s eventual 14-6 victory.
The 6-foot-2 De Grandpré threw 59 pitches, 40 of them for strikes.
De Grandpré was the only Quebec player on the Canadian Baseball Network’s All-Canadian College First Team in 2021.
