Cédric De Grandpré added six more strikeouts to his season total to help lead Chipola College to a 13-3 win over Andrew College on Thursday.

De Grandpré (Saint-Simon, Que.) was summoned from the bullpen with two outs in the third inning with a runner on third with his team leading 4-2. The Quebec hurler retired the first batter he faced on a grounder to second base to end the inning.

In the next inning, the 19-year-old fanned the first batter he faced then gave up a walk before notching a second strikeout. He then allowed a run-scoring single before ending the inning with another strikeout. He struck out the side again in the fifth.

The former Baseball Canada Academy (ABC) pitcher was back at the mound in the sixth and retired the first batter he faced on a ground ball before he was replaced by a reliever.

In total, the 6-foot-1 teen pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up a run on one hit and two walks, while registering six strikeouts. Of the 57 pitches he threw, 34 were strikes, averaging almost 60%.

De Grandpré’s Quebec teammate, Alfonso Villalobos (Kirkland, Que.,) started at first base for Chipola and went 0-for-3, but scored a run in the fifth inning.

Adamo Stornello Hits

The Crowder College Roughriders of Missouri suffered a 10-2 loss to the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers of Kansas. Adamo Stornello (Montreal, Que.) was the starting catcher for Missouri and went 1-for-4. His teammate Nicolas Tremblay (Saint-Hilaire, Que.) did not play.

Victory and defeat for Cowley College

The Cowley College Tigers, with Quebecers Félix-Antoine Chénier-Rondeau and Olivier Morin-Larocque, split a doubleheader with the Cloud County Community College Thunderbirds.

RF Chenier-Rondeau went 2-for-2 in a 12-3 loss in the first game and was hitless in the second contest, an 8-4 win.
