After three strong innings, Deneault-Gauthier gives up four runs

Quebec’s Mathieu Deneault-Gauthier started for the West Texas A&M University Buffs in their second game of the season against the Oklahoma Baptist University Bisons.

The 22-year-old gunner, who’s in his last season of college eligibility, did well in his first three innings, although he allowed a home run to the second hitter of the game.

But his fourth inning was a rough one. In that frame, he permitted four runs on five hits.

Deneault-Gauthier started well in the contest, fanning the first hitter. Then, after conceding the long ball and a single, the former member of the Dukes of Longueuil of the Quebec Elite Junior Baseball League, came back strong ending the inning by recording another strikeout.

Then, the 6-foot-2 athlete from Candiac, Que. held his opponents scoreless in the second and third sets, before giving in to fatigue in the fourth.

The fourth inning was his last.

In short, Deneault-Gauthier pitched four innings, giving up five runs on eight hits and one walk, while registering four strikeouts.

In the end, Deneault-Gauthier’s team was defeated 7-1 and he was the losing pitcher.
