Denzel Clarke named to American League roster for Futures Game

OTTAWA, Ont. – Junior National Team graduate Denzel Clarke (Pickering, Ont.) has been named to the American League roster for the Futures Game that will take place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angles on Saturday, July 16.

The 2022 Futures Game features the top Minor League prospects competing as part of the first-ever All-Star Saturday.

Clarke, 22, was selected by the Oakland A’s in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft and is currently playing with their High-A affiliate, the Lansing Lugnuts.

He is set to become the 35th player to represent Canada in the Futures Game since its inception in 1999 with a list that includes former MLB All-Stars Russell Martin, Justin Morneau, Michael Saunders, Mike Soroka and Joey Votto.

In 2009, when the Futures Game took place at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, a record four players represented Canada including game MVP Rene Tosoni (Port Coquitlam, BC) along with Tyson Gillies (Vancouver, BC), Brett Lawrie (Langley, BC) and Nick Weglarz (Stevensville, Ont.).
