Dawgs Win Kelowna Invitational!

Nathan Doleman drove in five to lead Dawgs 18U Red past Victoria Mariners 19-10 on Sunday in the championship final of the Kelowna Invitational. 

Doleman drove in runs on a single in the second and a triple in the third. Dawgs 18U Red scored on a single by Jacob Libbus in the first inning. Red took an early lead and scored seven in the sixth inning. The  Mariners scratched back, scoring seven runs in the third. Luke Spadafora earned the win for the Dawgs. He tossed 1 1/3 innings, allowing four runs, and three hits. Jared Anderson started for the Mariners. He pitched 1 2/3 innings, surrendering six runs, four hits, and striking out two. Bryce Libke started the game for the Dawgs working 2/3 of an inning, surrendering one run, and one hit. The Dawgs squad had 12 hits in the game. Seitz, Noah Penney, and Tate Morrell each collected multiple hits for Dawgs 18U Red. The Mariners collected nine hits as Luke Seginowich, Piechnik, and Niketas each collected multiple hits.

Semi-final

Four hits from Chad Picton helped lead Dawgs 18U Red past Dawgs 18U Black 7-3 on Sunday in the semi-final. Picton singled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the sixth, and singled in the seventh. Dawgs Red grabbed an early lead, scoring on a grounder by Tucker Zdunich and a single by Picton in the first inning. Dawgs Red scored three in the sixth on an error and a walk. Tate Morrell earned the win for Dawgs Red tossing a scoreless inning, allowing two hits, striking out two, and walking zero. Scott Waterman took the loss pitching 2 2/3 innings, surrendering three runs, four hits, and striking out one. Quinn Tocheniuk started for the Dawgs Red. He went three innings, giving up two runs, five hits, and walking zero. Dawgs Red had nine hits in the game. Picton, Michael Johnson, and Zdunich each collected multiple hits for Dawgs 18U Red. Dawgs 18U Red didn’t commit a single error in the field. Kye Seitz had the most chances in the field with six. Dawgs 18U Black collected 10 hits. Tristan Peters, Tyler McWillie, and Greg Student each collected multiple hits for Dawgs 18U Black. Peters led Dawgs 18U Black with three hits in four at bats.

Game 1 vs Victoria Mariners:
The Dawgs fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 8-3 loss to the  Mariners on Thursday. Victoria scored on a walk in the first inning, a single by Dylan Price and a single by Lee in the first inning, a double by Chris Niketas, a triple by Price and a double by Zeke Holt in the second inning. Liam Kruse earned the win for Victoria. He pitched five innings, allowing one run, three hits, striking out 11, and walking one. Tocheniuk took the loss for the Dawgs. He went 1 2/3 innings, surrendering seven runs, eight hits, striking out one, and walking one. Tate Morrell, Michael Johnson, and Jacob Libbus each drove in one run to lead Dawgs 18U Red.

Game 2 vs Edmonton Prospects:
The took Friday’s game in dramatic fashion, with a 9-8 walk-off victory over Edmonton. The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the eighth when Tucker Zdunich singled, driving in a run. Both offenses were strong at the plate as the Dawgs collected five hits scoring on a fielder’s choice by Chad Picton, a passed ball and a error. Edmonton scored four runs in the sixth inning. Melvin Lorenzo earned the win for the Dawgs pitching one scoreless inning, allowing zero hits, striking out one, and walking one. Branden Woods started for Dawgs going five innings, surrendering three runs, three hits, and striking out four. Tucker Zdunich, Kye Seitz, Ayden Makarus, Ben Pelechaty, and Picton each drove in one run to lead the Dawgs.

Game 3 vs. Parksville Royals:
The Dawgs defeated Parksville 2-0 on Saturday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. The Dawgs didn’t take the lead until later in the game, scored one run when Jacob Libbus doubled with one out in the seventh inning. Aaron Peach earned the win for the Dawgs pitching six scoreless, giving up four hits, and striking out four. Melvin Lorenzo recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Dawgs. Nathan Doleman, Libbus, and Chad Picton all had one hit to lead the Dawgs.
