D’Souza, Omeljaniuk, Reid Oldridge, Robinson lead Twins to Brampton tourney win

The Mississauga Southwest Twins beat the Markham Mariners 14-5 to win the Brampton 13U double-A tournament.

Callum Reid Oldridge keyed a six-run first with a bases-loaded triple and right-hander Ben Robinson pitched four innings as the Mississauga Southwest Twins beat the Markham Mariners 14-5 in the final of the Brampton 13U AA tournament.

It was the Twins’ first-ever tournament under coach Christian Hawn.

Liam Forth and Corey D’Souza each singled, which along with some walks, gave the Twins a 2-0 lead with the bases loaded to set up Reid Oldridge’s triple chasing home D’Souza, Lynkin Lam and Nathan Omeljaniuk.

Robinson pitched four innings, allowing four hits and striking out six. He left with a 12-3 lead. Forth took over and struck out three in three innings.

On a single to right, Jackson Tedjo threw out a runner at home trying to score from second and also made a sliding catch in the outfield. Ben Hawn made a fine play in the hole on a grounder throwing out a hitter at first .

D’Souza had three hits, including a triple, while Forth had three singles and Reid Oldridge, who earned the nickname ‘Big Game’ had two. Evan Leighton, Ivor Packer, Robinson, Hawn, Omeljaniuk and Tedjo also had base knocks.

D’Souza pitched five innings for an 8-3 win against Martingrove in the semi-final. The impressive right-hander struck out 13 of the 15 outs he recorded. Leighton then pitched two scoreless innings.

Aaliyah King had a pair of hits as did D’Souza and Tedjo with other safeties going to Hawn, Robinson, Leighton and Reid Oldridge, who tripled again.

In pool play ... Reid Oldridge pitched the final two innings for the win in a 5-3 victory over the Bloordale Bombers. He led off with a double in the bottom of the sixth, with the Twins down 3-2. With two out, Joey Pereira and Forth each singled, setting the stage for a two-run, game-winning double by Robinson.

Omeljaniuk struck out eight in five innings before Reid Oldridge took over. Reid Oldridge had two hits with others going to Pereira, Forth, Robinson and Packer, who doubled.

The win gave the Twins top spot in Pool play and a berth in the semi finals.

The Twins did not fare as well in the middle game of Pool play, losing 15-8 to the Mississauga North Tigers. Hawn pitched four innings, striking out four and left with a 5-3 lead.

Desmond Khindria and D’Souza each had two hits as Khindria had two doubles and D’Souza tripled. Other hits went to Forth, Reid Oldridge, Hawn, Tedjo and Omeljaniuk, who doubled.

The Twins opened with a 12-2 victory over the Aurora Blue Jays. D’Souza pitched two innings before Robinson pitched the final three.

Omeljaniuk had three hits, including two doubles. D’Souza, Forth, Reid Oldridge, Hawn and King had the other hits.
