Game 1

The Junior National Team tied the Milwaukee Brewers' Dominican Instructional League squad 3-3 in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday.

The Juniors scored first in the contest. In the sixth inning, they capitalized on a Brewers’ error after Phillip Cheong fielder’s choice to bring home two runs. Adyn Schell (Toronto, Ont.) added to the lead with another RBI fielder’s choice in the eighth to make it 3-0.

However, the Brewers rallied to score three runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game.

On the mound, Sean Duncan (Port Coquitlam, BC) had his second solid start of the camp for the Juniors, striking out two in four scoreless innings.

Game 2

In the second game of the doubleheader on Sunday, the Junior National Team put up a gritty effort in a 5-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals DIL.

The Juniors struck early when Tim Piasentin (Coquitlam, BC) hit a sacrifice fly after a leadoff triple by Phillip Cheong (Richmond Hill, Ont.) to give Canada a 1-0 lead.

Despite Canada’s strong start, the Cardinals capitalized on key opportunities in the second and fifth innings to take a 4-1 lead.

On the mound, Keegan Russell (Whitby, Ont.) and Julian Sabourin (Ancaster, Ont.) split the pitching duties for the Juniors, combining for nine strikeouts and only one walk.

The Juniors’ offence continued to press late in the game. In the ninth inning, Justin Rompré (Sainte-Anne-De-La-Perade, Que.) and Easton Kitura (Spruce Grove, Alta.) brought renewed energy to the lineup and added another run.
