Edwards' walk-off single gives Terriers 17U PBLO 18U title

The Ontario Terriers 17U ran the table this weekend with five consecutive victories en route to being crowned the 2018 18U Premier League of Ontario champions.

The Terriers squared off against the 18U Badgers from London in Sunday’s championship final game and came away with a tight 3-2 walk-off win.

London got on the board first with a run in the top of the third off Terrier starter Mike Manning (Pickering, Ont.).

The Terriers answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth when Parker Micucci (Limehouse, Ont.) lined a one out single over the Badger shortstop’s head. Christian Bottero (Mississauga, Ont.) followed with a single through the 5-6 hole, then Zach Marriott (Oakville, Ont.) loaded the bases with a walk.

Jamal Armstrong (Toronto, Ont.) was next in and delivered a clutch RBI single, scoring Micucci.

Bottero scored the go ahead run after A. J. Karosas (Mississauga, Ont.) punched a single through the left side.

In the top of the fifth the Badgers loaded the bases with nobody out. Manager Rick Johnston (Peterborough, Ont.) summoned Devon Yogendran (Milton, Ont.) from the bullpen and he pitched out of the jam unscathed with a 1-2-3 double play and a lazy fly ball to left.

In the top of the seventh, the Terriers were one out away from victory but London plated a run to tie the game at 2-2.

Cue the dramatics...

In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Logan Pelletier (Toronto, Ont.) reached on an error then advanced to second on the over throw.

Ethan Edwards (Brampton, Ont.) was next in and with a 1-0 count, he plopped the game winning RBI inside the left field line as Logan raced home with the game winning run.

‎The Terriers reached the final with a 3-0 win‎s over the Ottawa Nepean-Canadians, 9-2 against London, 7-2 facing the Windsor Selects and an 8-7 win over the Ontario Royals.
