Elliott: From Bay to Marklund, 180 all-Canadians move on in 20 years

A look back at past members of the Canadian Baseball Network all-Canadian college team and how many reached the next level … plus a reminder if you have not returned your ballot for 2019… you are running out of time. And remember there is no complaining if you do not cast a vote.

No one knows for sure what lies ahead for the members of our soon-to-be-announced 21st annual Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian College team?

Whomever makes the All-Canadian college team — the best playing the majority of their schedule south of the border in the spring of 2019 — they will be carrying on a Canadian tradition: success at the college level that translates to success at the pro level.

Looking back, here are the former all-Canadians — 180 in all — who have reached the next level, or are on their way to proceeding further down the road than most before retiring … Here is a look at how far they went, plus where they pitched or played in 2018:

OF Jason Bay (Trail, BC), of the Gonzaga Bulldogs, a Canadian Baseball Network first team All-Canadian in 2000, was drafted in the 22nd round by the Montreal Expos. He was the 2004 National League Rookie of the Year with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He signed a four-year, $60 million US deal with the New York Mets. Battling concussion he was dealt to the Seattle Mariners, played 68 games with the Mariners before retiring after the 2013 season. Baseball Canada added Bay’s name to the Wall of Excellence in Ottawa, he was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St. Marys in 2019 and now efforts are underway to attach his name to Butler Field in Trail, BC.

SS Shayne Ridley (Milton, Ont.), from the Ball State Cardinals, a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2000, signed with the Baltimore Orioles for two seasons and one year in the Kansas City Royals system.

LHP Jordan Gerk (Kelowna, BC), of the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, and a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2000, pitched in the Detroit Tigers system.

3B Nom Siriveaw (Vancouver, BC), of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2000, signed with the Toronto Blue Jays, playing four seasons in the system.

RHP Rich Harden (Victoria, BC) had a 59-38 record ( a 608 winning percentage in his nine year. He appeared in 170 games — 160 starts — for a 3.76 career ERA.

RHP Rich Harden (Victoria, BC), of Central Arizona Vaqueros, earned Canadian Baseball Network first team honours in 2001. He pitched nine years in the majors with the Oakland A’s, Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers.

2B John Cole (Kanata, Ont.) of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, a Canadian Baseball Network first-team selection in 2001, signed with the Mariners.

SS Lee Delfino (Pickering, Ont.), a Canadian Baseball Network first-team selection in 2001 with the East Carolina Pirates, signed with the Jays and now coaches sandlot ball for the FieldHouse Pirates.

OF Danny Gibbons (Toronto, Ont.) of the North Central Texas Lions, a Canadian Baseball Network first team selection in 2001 and a third team selection in 2002, signed with the A’s and played three seasons in their system.

OF Adam Stern (Port Stanley, Ont.), of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and a 2001 Canadian Baseball Network second-teamer, played 54 games in the majors for the Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles and the Milwaukee Brewers. He runs the Great Lake Canadians.

RHP Chris Begg (Uxbridge, Ont.), of the Niagara Purple Eagles, a 2001 Canadian Baseball Network second teamer, pitched in the San Francisco Giants system. He now coaches and teaches at the Everest Academy.



RHP Steven Carter (Woodslee, Ont.), of the Coastal Carolina Chantileers Hal of Famer, a Canadian Baseball Network second team selection in 2001 and in 2004, signed with Oakland. He went on to be a dominant force with the Windsor Stars.

OF Josh McCurdy (Thornhill, Ont.). of the Niagara Purple Eagles, a Canadian Baseball Network third team selection in 2001 and a first teamer in 2003, signed with the Baltimore Orioles.

Former North Delta Blue Jay and UBC Thunderbird LHP Jeff Francis (North Delta, BC).

LHP Jeff Francis (North Delta, BC), of the British Columbia Thunderbirds, proved you can stay near home and still go far, as a Canadian Baseball Network first-team All-Canadian selection in 2002. He was a first-round pick (ninth overall) in the draft and won 17 games for the Rockies. After starting the gold medal game for Canada in the Pan Am Game at Ajax in 2015, Francis retired. He now gives pitching instruction at Centre Field Sports in London, Ont.

RHP John Ogiltree (Mississauga, Ont.) of the Martin Methodist Indians, a Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2001, was signed by the Jays. He is a coach for the Burlington Bulls.

RHP Judd Richardson (Caledon, Ont.), of the Miami Ohio RedHawks, a Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2001, signed a contract with the Brewers.

RP Jesse Crain (Toronto, Ont.), of the Houston Cougars, earned Canadian Baseball Network first-team honours as a closer in 2002 and a second team shortstop selection the same year. Crain pitched 10 years in the majors before retiring after the 2013 season.

RHP John Axford (Port Dover, Ont.), of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and then Mike McRae’s (Niagara Falls, Ont.) Canisius Golden Griffins, a Canadian Baseball Network second-team selection in 2002 and a third-team choice is 2003. He was dominant as the Milwaukee Brewers closer and then worked out of the Colorado Rockies bullpen and reached the World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals. Under contract to the Toronto Blue Jays this season he was injured and pitched only one inning with the Rookie-Class Gulf Coast Jays.

C George Kottaras (Markham, Ont.), of the Connors State Cowboys, a Canadian Baseball Network second-teamer in 2002 and an honourable mention in 2003. He played in 313 games in the majors and spent 11 seasons in the minors before retiring after the 2016 season.

3B Hyung Cho (Scarborough, Ont.), of the Houston Cougars, a Canadian Baseball Network third team selection in 2002 and a first teamer in 2003, went on to play two seasons in the Mariners system.

SS Aaron Hornostaj (Waterloo, Ont.), of the Connors State Cowboys, a Canadian Baseball Network third-team selection in 2002, was signed by the Giants and played seven seasons in their minor-league system before playing one year for Edmonton in the Golden League.

OF Matthew Stocco (Guelph, Ont.), of the Spartanburg Methodist Pioneers and a Canadian Baseball Network third team selection in 2002, played in the San Diego Padres organization. He coached with the Ontario Terriers.

C Russell Martin (Montreal, Que.), of the Chipola Indians, a Canadian Baseball Network 2002 honourable mention. After helping the Pittsburgh Pirates to back-to-back post-season appearances — their first since 1992, Martin signed a five-year $82 million deal with the Blue Jays. In 2015, he had his name added onto the Baseball Canada Wall of Excellence. After being dealt to the Dodgers this January, Canada’s greatest catcher started only 52 games this summer -- the smallest of his career.

Former UBC Thunderbird and Victoria Mariners RHP Brooks McNiven (Vernon, BC).

RHP Brooks McNiven (Vernon, BC), of the British Columbia Thunderbirds, a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2003, signed with the Giants. He coaches with the North Shore Twins and is one of the more respected pitching gurus on the coast.

LHP Adam Loewen (Surrey, BC), of the Chipola Indians, a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2003 as a pitcher and a third teamer as a DH, broke into the Baltimore Orioles rotation in 2005. An elbow injury meant a switch to the batter’s box, he made it back to the majors as a hitter with the Jays in 2011 and he was back again with the Philadelphia Phillies as a reliever. He did not play either position in 2019.

RP Ryan Braun (Kitchener, Ont.), of the Nevada-Las Vegas Hustlin’ Rebels, a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2003, pitched in 35 games for the Kansas City Royals in 2006-07 after seven seasons in the minors.


OF Alex Borgo (Cookstown, Ont.), of the New Mexico State Aggies, a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2003, signed with the Phillies and played one season in their organization.

LHP Drew Taylor (Toronto, Ont.), of the Michigan Wolverines, a Canadian Baseball Network second-team All-Canadian in 2003 also as earned honourable mention in 2005-06. He pitched in the Jays system, went to spring training with the Phillies and is now is a chip off the block ... a doctor, like his father Ron.

RP Cory Stuart (White Rock, BC), of the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, a Canadian Baseball Network second team all-Canadian in 2003, went on to pitch four seasons in the New York Yankees system.

OF Christopher Emanuele (Mississauga, Ont.) of the Northeastern Huskies, a Canadian Baseball Network second team selection in 2003 and in 2005 and a first teamer in 2006, played in the Jays system for four years.

RP John Hurd — no relation to the legendary Toronto sandlot coach — (Fruitvale, BC), of the Southern Idaho Golden Eagles, named to the Canadian Baseball Network third team in 2003, and signed with the White Sox, pitching four seasons in the minors.


C Jake Elder (North Delta, BC), of the Minnesota Golden Gophers, selected to the Canadian Baseball Network third team in 2003 and 2004, plus the second team in 2005 played in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.

INF Emerson Frostad (Calgary, Alta.), of the Lewis-Clark State Warriors, named to the Canadian Baseball Network third team in 2003, reached triple-A Oklahoma City and retired after playing for Trois-Rivieres Aigles in the independent Can-Am League.

INF Matt Rogelstad (Coquitlam, BC), of the Arkansas State Trojans, elected to the Canadian Baseball Network third team in 2003, and spent time in the Washington Nationals system.

LHP Adam Daniels (North Vancouver, BC), of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, a Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2003, a third team in 2004 and a third teamer in 2005, signed with the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He signed after being drafted a fifth time. He was selected in the in 2001 (27th round) by the Toronto Blue Jays; by the Minnesota Twins in 2002 (19th) from East Oklahoma State College, by the Colorado Rockies in 2003 (22nd) from East Oklahoma State College, the Chicago Cubs in 2004 (43rd) from East Oklahoma State and the Cardinals (15th). He was in the Cardinals minor-league system for four years and then moved on to play three more years of Indy ball.


OF Reed Eastley (Brandon, Man.), of the Niagara Purple Eagles.

OF Reed Eastley (Brandon, Man.), of the Niagara Purple Eagles, named Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention to the 2003 all-Canadian team, a second teamer in 2004 and an honourable mention in 2005, signed with Seattle, playing three summers in the M’s system.




OF Sebastien Boucher (Ottawa, Ont.), of the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2003 and earned third-team honours in 2004, before turning pro with the Mariners and playing with the Quebec Capitales in the independent Can-Am League. His final at-bat came in 2018 with the Ottawa Champions, a team he now manages.

OF Jimmy Van Ostrand (North Delta BC), of the Alan Hancock Bulldogs and the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Mustangs, earned Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2003 and 2005 and was a third teamer in 2006. He retired and joined the Mariners’ development staff and now is the Blue Jays mental coach.

RHP Jordan Thomson (Ottawa, Ont.), of the Northeastern Huskies, a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2004, signed with San Francisco, playing one season, before moving on to Indy ball for two seasons.

RP Robbie Findlay (Etobicoke, Ont.), of the Texas Christian Horned Frogs, earned Canadian Baseball Network first team All-Canadian honours in 2004 and turned pro with the Tampa Bay Devils Rays, pitching one season.

C Chris Robinson (Dorchester, Ont.), of the Illinois Fighting Illini, a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2004 and 2005, was drafted by the Detroit Tigers and made the majors with the San Diego Padres. Robinson now coaches with the Great Lake Canadians.




RHP John Mariotti (Toronto, Ont.), of the Gulf Coast Commodores and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, was voted to the Canadian Baseball Network first team in 2004 and earned honourable mention in 2005, 2006 and 2007. He now instructs pitchers with the FieldHouse Pirates.

SS Jonathan Malo (St-Roch-de-l’Achigan, Que.) of the Northeastern Oklahoma A & M Golden Norse, a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2004 played in the New York Mets system, starred with Quebec and was in the lineup this year.

LHP R.J. Swindle (Vancouver, BC), of the Charleston Southern Buccaneers, a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2004 and third teamer in 2004, was drafted by the Boston Red Sox, pitched nine years in the minors and made the majors for nine games with the Phillies and the Brewers.

RHP Chris Leroux (Mississauga, Ont.), of the Winthrop Eagles, a third teamer in 2004, pitched parts of six seasons in the majors and another 10 in the minors. This summer he was on the mound for the Toronto Maple Leafs as well as pitching for Team Canada. His workload on The Fan’s Blue Jays coverage seemed to be cut back this season.

RHP James Avery (Moose Jaw, Sask.), of the Niagara Purple Eagles, a Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2004, was a first teamer in 2005. He pitched in the Tigers system, before heading to Mexico and then retiring.


RP Jason Blackey (Duncan, BC), of the North Central Texas Lions, gained Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2004, then pitched four seasons n the Boston Red Sox system.

C Mike Nickeas (Vancouver, BC), of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, received Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2004, reached triple-A Buffalo, in the Blue Jays system. He is a an assistant coach with Georgia Tech.

SS Steven Condotta (Mississauga, Ont.), of the Florida Tech Panthers, earned Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention honours in 2004 and 2005 and was a first teamer in 2006 and 2007 before signing with the Jays and playing two years.

OF Jon Baksh (Mississauga, Ont.), of Florida Tech Panthers, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2004, was a first teamer in 2005 and 2006. He was drafted and signed with the Jays, playing four seasons.

1B Jared Schweitzer (Lethbridge, Alta.), of the Kansas Jayhawks, earned Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2004, made the second team in 2005 and in 2006. He turned pro with the St. Louis Cardinals and played two seasons.


OF Tim Smith (Toronto, Ont.), of the Midland Chaparrals, a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2005 and 2006 and a second team selection in 2007, signed with Texas. He played in in the Braves, Rangers and Royals systems. Now, he is an analyst with YAHOO! Canada Sports often pairing with former Jays C J.P. Arencibia and Nick Ashbourne, a former Canadian Baseball Network editor.

DH Mike Gosse (Pitt Meadows, BC), the Oklahoma Sooners in 2008 and a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2005 and 2006 with the New Mexico Thunderbirds, was drafted and signed with the Tigers, playing three seasons, including over .300 at triple-A Toldeo.

RHP Henry Mabee (Victoria, BC), a Canadian Baseball Network second teamer in 2005 with the Truman State Trojans, was drafted by the White Sox and reached Double-A Birmingham, during his seven seasons in the minors.

RHP Scott Richmond (North Vancouver, BC), of the Oklahoma State Cowboys, a Canadian Baseball Network third teamer in 2005, pitched for the Blue Jays. This summer he pitched in the independent Atlantic League.

SS Taylor Green (Courtenay, BC), of the Cypress Chargers, a Canadian Baseball Network third team choice in 2005 and an honourable mention in 2006, spent the year at double-A Biloxi. He was hired by the Milwakuee Brewers as a scout and hired Peter Orr (Newmarket, Ont.)


RP Chris Kissock (Fruitvale, BC), of the Lewis-Clark State Warriors, a Canadian Baseball Network second teamer in 2005 and 2006 and a first teamer in 2007, was drafted and pitched in the Phillies organization for six seasons. He retired after pitching four seasons in Indy ball.

RP Chris Toneguzzi (Thunder Bay, Ont.), of the Purdue Boilermakers, a Canadian Baseball Network third teamer in 2005 and a second teamer in 2006, signed with the Brewers, pitching two seasons.

OF Brad McElroy (London Ont.), of the Charlotte ‘49s, a Canadian Baseball Network second teamer in 2008 and 2006, a third teamer in 2005 and a first teamer in 2007, reached double-A New Hampshire in 2012 and retired.

LHP Scott Diamond (Guelph, Ont.), of the Binghamton Bearcats, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2005 and 2006. He pitched with the Minnesota Twins, pitched four seasons in the majors making 58 starts. He was with SK Wyverns in Hangul, South Korea and retired after the 2017 season.

RHP Matt Kniginyzky (Mississauga, Ont.), had excellent coaching on the Mississauga sandlots which helped to advance to pro ball for five years.

RHP Matt Kniginyzky (Mississauga, Ont.), of the High Point Panthers, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2005, pitched at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, the best of his five minor-league seasons. He also pitched a year of Indy ball.



RHP Jamie Richmond (Mississauga, Ont.), of the Texarkana Bulldogs, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2005, was signed by the Braves, was class-A Appalachian League pitcher of the year (Travis Snider won top hitter honours at Pulaski) and then pitched Indy ball until 2012.

C Cole Armstrong (Surrey, BC), of the Central Missouri State Mules, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2005, caught in the Miami Marlins system. This summer was the hitting coach at double-A Birmingham.

C Joel Collins (Richmond Hill, Ont.), of the South Alabama Jaguars, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2005, a third teamer in 2006 and 2007, signed with the Blue Jays, played in the Pirates and Giants organizations, retiring after 2011.

1B Jordan Lennerton (Langley, BC), of the El Paso Tejanos, was named Canadian Baseball Network second team all-Canadian in 2006 and a third teamer in 2007, signed with the Tigers. He was honoured by the Quebec Capitales in 2018. And this fall accompanied Canada to the Premier12 in Korea.

3B Devery Van De Keere (Barrhead, Alta.), of the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns, Canadian Baseball Network second team all-Canadian in 2006, signed with Kansas City. Van De Keere played two years in the minors and then in Europe.


SS David Cooper (Edmonton, Alta.), of the Mount Olive Trojans, a Canadian Baseball Network third teamer in 2008, a second teamer in 2006 and voted to the third team in 2007, signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks, played Indy ball and retired after the 2013 season.

OF-SS Marcel Champagnie (Bolton, Ont.), of the Arizona State Sun Devils, a Canadian Baseball Network second teamer in 2008, and a second team All-Canadian in 2007 and earned Third Team honours in 2006 at Kaskaskia Blue Devils, played two year in the Los Angeles Angels organization and two in Indy ball, the final season was 2015.

OF Rene Tosoni (Port Coquitlam BC), of the Chipola Indians, a Canadian Baseball Network third teamer in 2006, signed with the Minnesota Twins and player in their organization for seven seasons, winning MVP honours in the Futures Game. He spent four seasons playing Indy ball with 2016 for the Sugar Land Skeeters being his final year. But he was back to try to help Canada compete for a spot in the Olympics at the Premier12.

Evansville Purple Ace and Sault Ste. Marie Black Sox LHP Kai Tuomi (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.).

LHP Kai Tuomi (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.), of the Evansville Purple Aces, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2006 and 2007, signed with the Nationals and pitched two seasons in the organization before moving on to pitch two seasons of Indy ball.

RHP Derek McDaid (Barrie, Ont.), of the Charlotte ‘49ers, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2006, signed with the Padres pitched three seasons before moving on to pitch two more with at Quebec.


RHP Brad Cuthbertson (Sherwood Park, Alta.), of the Midland Chaparrals, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2006, signed with the Jays and pitched two seasons.

RHP Aaron Cotter (South Slocan, BC), of the Arkansas Monticello Boll Weevils, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention to the all-Canadian team in 2006, signed with the Mariners, pitched in their system for three seasons, including a stint at triple-A and three years of Indy ball.

1B Brock Kjeldgaard (London, Ont.), of the Indian Hills Falcons, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention to the all-Canadian team in 2006 as a pitcher and as a first baseman. He played for nine seasons in the Brewers organization before moving on to three years of Indy ball. Kjeldgaard is now a Great Lakes Canadians coach.

RHP Trystan Magnuson (Vancouver, BC) Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2006 and a first-team selection in 2007, of the Louisville Cardinals, was drafted by the Blue Jays. He pitched nine games with Oakland and spent six seasons in the minors.

LHP Andrew Albers (North Battleford, Sask.) Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2006 and 2007, plus a first teamer in 2008 with the Kentucky Wildcats, signed with the Padres, injured his arm, pitched in Quebec, signed with the Twins, and joined the Twins rotation to have back-to-back scoreless outings in 2013. Albers pitched for the Orix Buffaloes in 2019.


C Lars Davis (Grand Prairie, Alta.), of the Illinois Fighting Illini, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2006 and a first teamer in 2007, was drafted by the Colorado Rockies. He spent one season with triple-A LeHigh Valley in the Phillies system. He is a volunteer assistant coach with the Florida Gators.

1B Mitch MacDonald (Regina, Sask.), of the Monterrey Peninsula Lobos, Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention to the 2006 and second team all-Canadian in 2007, signed with the Marlins and played two seasons.

RP Tom Boleska (Burlington, Ont.), of the High Point Panthers, Canadian Baseball Network second team all-Canadian in 2007, was drafted by the Pirates and pitched six seasons for the Bucs and Orioles farm clubs for six seasons. He also was on the mound for two seasons in Indy ball.

INF 2B Skyler Stromsmoe (Bow Island, Alta.) spent nine seasons in the Giants organization.

2B Skyler Stromsmoe (Bow Island, Alta.), of the Southern Arkansas Muleriders, earned Canadian Baseball Network third-team all-Canadian in 2007, signed with San Francisco reached triple-A Sacramento and scored the game-tying run in the 10th inning of the gold medal game at the Pan Ams before retiring after the 2015 season. In all, he spent nine seasons in the Giants system.

2B Kevin Mailloux (Windsor, Ont.) of the Canisius Golden Griffins, a Canadian Baseball Network first team All-Canadian in 2009, 2008 and 2006 and a second teamer in 2005, was drafted by the Mariners and played two years in the system.


RHP David Francis (Mississauga, Ont.), of the Walters State Govenors, a Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention honours in 2007 and a first teamer in 2008, was in the Atlanta system for three years and then pitched Indy ball for three more.

SS Terrance Dayleg (Surrey, BC), of the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, a Canadian Baseball Network first team All-Canadian in 2008 and an honourable mention in 2007 and 2009, was drafted by the Marlins and reached double-A Jacksonville, playing seven seasons in the Marlins system.

SS David Narodowski (Vancouver, BC), a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer with the Kansas Jayhawks in 2009 and second teamer with of the Vernon Chaparrals in 2008, was drafted and signed by the Diamondbacks. He spent three seasons with Arizona before playing one year of Indy ball.

3B Randy Schwartz (Kleinburg, Ont.), of the High Point Panthers, a Canadian Baseball Network second teamer in 2008 and honourable mention in 2007, played in the Jays system for three seasons.

RHP Jordan Meaker (Burlington, Ont.) of Dallas Baptist Patriots, a Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2008, signed with the Diamondbacks and had two seasons pitching in the Arizona system.


OF Chad Stang (Surrey, BC), of Midland Chaparrals; a Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2008 and a 2009 third teamer was drafted the Brewers. He reached double-A Huntsville, retiring after five years in the Milwaukee system and one year of Indy ball.

OF Josh Garton (Guelph, Ont.), of the Volunteer State Senators, a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer in 2009 and an honourable mention in 2008, was drafted by the Reds, played three seasons and then indy ball for two years..

LHP James Paxton (Ladner, BC) of the Kentucky Wildcats was a First Team Canadian Baseball Network First Team member in 2009 and earned Third Team honors in 2008. Paxton was drafted by the Blue Jays, but Toronto was unable to sign him. The Jays at times took satisfaction that Paxton signed a year later for less when selected by the Mariners from the Independent Grand Prairie Air Hogs. Paxton was the Yankees best starter this season going 15-6 in 29 starts with a 3.82 ERA. He walked 55 and struck out 186 in 150 2/3 innings.

C Marc-Olivier Mimeault-Jodoin (Candiac, Que.) of the Georgia State Panthers, a Canadian Baseball Network first team all-Canadian in 2009, a third team All-Canadian in Marc Olivier Jodoin-Mimeault 2008 and a second team all-Canadian in 2007 with the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Golden Norse, played with Quebec and retired after the 2013 season.

2B Chris Bisson (Orleans, Ont.), of the Kentucky Wildcats, a Canadian Baseball Network second team all-Canadian in 2009 and 2010, signed with the Padres and played at double-A San Antonio.

INF Jeremiah Sammy (Markham, Ont.), of the Lamar Cardinals, a 2009 Canadian Baseball Network third teamer, signed with Rockies, played three seasons in the Colorado minor-league system and retired after 2011.

LHP Jon Hesketh (Langley, BC) of New Mexico Lobos, a Canadian Baseball Network 2009 honourable mention and a 2006 third teamer, signed with the M’s and pitched in the minors in the Seattle system for three seasons.

RHP David Kington (Coquitlam, BC) of the Southern Illinois Salukis, a 2009 Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention, was drafted, signed by St. Louis and played in the minors for two years.

INF Bobby Wagner (Port Coquitlam, BC) of the Panola Ponies, a Canadian Baseball Network 2009 honourable mention, signed with the Cubs and played in their system for two years and then moved on to play Indy ball for three years.


SS Jeff Cowan (Scarborough, Ont.) of the High Point Panthers, a Canadian Baseball Network 2009 Honourable Mention, signed with Normal in the Indy Frontier League for the 2010 season.

SS Sammie Starr (Toronto, Ont.), of the UBC Thunderbirds, a Canadian Baseball Network 2009 Honourable Mention and third team honours in 2010. He was drafted and signed by the Orioles and played five seasons in their system. He retired and is now coaching University of British Columbia Thunderbirds.

OF Ryan Lapensee (Lasalle, Ont.), of the Wayne State Warriors, a Canadian Baseball Network Honourable Mention in 2009 and third teamer in 2010 and signed with Arizona played in the Diamondbacks organization for two seasons.

OF Marcus Knecht (North York, Ont.) of the Connors State Cowboys, was Canadian Baseball Network player of the year and a first team all-Canadian in 2010, was drafted by the Blue Jays. After spending six seasons with the Jays and the Twins before moving on to play and this summer played Indy ball in Quebec.

LHP Sheldon McDonald (Spruce Grove, Alta.) of the UBC Thunderbirds earned Canadian Baseball Network first team honours as a reliever in 2008, second team honours in 2010 and first team honours in 2001. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs and played three seasons as well as three seasons with Quebec.


INF Sean Jamieson (Simcoe, Ont.) of the Canisius Golden Griffs earned Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention honours in 2009, second team honours in 2010 and First Team Honours in 2011. A former Randy Echlin award as the top Canadian hitter in the minors, he spent six seasons in the minors in the A’s and the Diamondbacks systems.

RHP Brandon Kaye (Langley, BC) of the UBC Thunderbirds earned Canadian Baseball Network third team honours in 2010. He was signed by the Jays played one season in the minors and after a year off spent a year at Indy ball in Edmonton.

RHP Zack Breault (Amherstburg, Ont.) earned Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention honours in 2010 pitching at Bryan. He was signed by the Jays as a free agent, pitched two seasons in the Toronto system.

RHP Les Williams (Toronto, Ont.) of the Northeastern Huskies, earned Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention honours in 2010 pitching at Northeastern. He was drafted by the Blue Jays and pitched in the minors for two seasons.

SS Steve Wickens (Whitby, Ont.) earned Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention honours in 2010 at Florida Gulf Coast. He was drafted by the Twins and played six seasons in the Minnesota organization.

RHP Robert Nixon (Welland, Ont.) of the Adelphi Panthers, earned Canadian Baseball Network second team honours in 2011 and honourable mention honours in 2010. He was drafted and signed by the Indians pitched four years in the system and then moved on to play five years of Indy ball.

RHP Erik Brown (Thunder Bay, Ont.) of the UBC Thunderbirds, earned Canadian Baseball Network third team honours in 2011 and honourable mention honours in 2010 and 2009. He was drafted by the Jays and pitched in the minor league system for three seasons.



INF Eric Wood (Pickering, Ont.) of the Blinn Broncos, earned Canadian Baseball Network third team honours in 2012. He was the top Canuck drafted in 2012 going to the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played at triple-A Indianapolis Indians this season.

RHP Jeff Gibbs (East York, Ont.) of University of Maine Black Bears, earned Canadian Baseball Network third team honours in 2011 and was on the second team in 2010. The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Gibbs in the ninth round. He pitched in the Diamondbacks system for two seasons.

LHP David Otterman (Coquitlam, BC) University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, took Canadian Baseball Network first team honours in 2012. Otterman was the second overall Canuck chosen going to the Brewers. He pitched two seasons in the Milwaukee system.

INF Maxx Tissenbaum (Toronto Ont.) of the Stony Brook Sea Wolves, named the Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Year and a First team honours in 2012 and honourable mention in 2010 and 2011. The Padres chose Tissenbaum and he spent five seasons with Tampa Bay and the Marlins. Later he played three season for Quebec.

OF Tyler Hollick (Calgary, Alta.) of Chandler-Gilbert, earned Canadian Baseball Network first team honours in 2012 and and honourable mention in 2011. Hollick was chosen by the San Francisco and played three seasons in the Giants system, He is now an Okotoks Dawgs coach.


INF Keaton Briscoe (North Vancouver BC) of the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, took Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention honours in 2011 and 2010. Boston selected Briscoe and he played two seasons in the Red Sox organization.

RHP Jasvir Rakkar (Brampton, Ont.) of the Stony Brook University Sea Wolves, earned Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2012. The reliever went to the Chicago Cubs in the draft and played four seasons in the Cubs system before moving on to one year of Indy ball. He helped Canada win gold at the 2015 Pan-Am in Ajax.

RHP Adam Paulencu (Sherwood Park, Alta.), of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical, earned Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2012. He was selected by the Rockies in the 26th round and pitched one season in the Colorado organization.

RP Jon Fitzsimmons (London, Ont.) of Canisius earned Canadian Baseball Network First Team honours in 2012. He was signed by Kansas City, as well as pitching in the Indians and Angels systems for five years, before going to Indy ball for three seasons.

C Larry Balkwill (Chatham, Ont.) of the Siena Saints, earned Canadian Baseball Network First Team honours in 2012. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers and spent six season playing Indy ball. He played for the Ottawa Champions and the Chicago Dogs this summer.


SS Pier-Olivier Dostaler (Mont-Carmel, Que.) of Lamar gained Canadian Baseball Network First Team honours in 2012. He played one year with the independent Trois Rivieres Eagles.

LHP Rob Zastryzny (Edmonton, Alta.) of the Missouri Tigers, earned Canadian Baseball Network third team honours in 2013 and second team in 2012. He was chosen by the Cubs in the second round and earned a World Series ring in 2016. This year he pitched for the triple A Oklahoma City Dodgers and the double-A Tulsa Drillers.

RHP Nick Pivetta (Victoria, BC) of the New Mexico JC Thunderbirds, earned Canadian Baseball Network third team honours in 2013. He was chosen by the Nationals in the fourth round. In 2014 he earned Canadian Baseball Network Canadian Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Dealt to the Philadelphia Phillies in the Jonathan Papelbon deadline deal. This season Pivetta was 4-6 with a 5.38 ERA in 30 games making 13 starts. He was also at triple-A Lehigh Valley for nine games -- making six starts -- as he went 5-1 with a 3.07 ERA.

RHP Andrew Cooper (Belle River, Ont.) of the Sierra Wolverines, earned Canadian Baseball Network first team honours in 2013. He was selected in the 11th round by the Nationals and pitched three seasons in the Washington system. This summer he was with the Can-Am’s Ottawa Champions.

OF Adam Nelubowich (Stony Plain, Alta.) of the Washington State Cougars, picked up Canadian Baseball Network honorable mention honors in 2013. The Astros chose him in the 18th round. He played two seasons in the Houston system.



C Mike Reeves (Peterborough, Ont.) of the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles. He earned Canadian Baseball Network third team honours in 2013. He was chosen in the 21st round by the Blue Jays and played five seasons in the Toronto system.

RHP Brock Dykxhoorn (Goderich, Ont.) of the Central Arizona College Vaqueros. He earned Canadian Baseball Network second team honours in 2014. Drafted by the Astros, where he played five seasons in the Astros organization. He played another year in Indy ball. This season he pitched for the Lotte Giants and SK Wyverns in South Korea.

RHP Jordan Romano (Markham, Ont.), Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. He earned Canadian Baseball Network first team honours in 2014. He was selected by Toronto in 2014. This summer, his fifth year in the organization — which ncluded a Rule V selection by the Rangers and then returned — he made his major-league debut with the Jays June 12.

C Jordan Procyshen (Calgary, Alta.) of the Northern Kentucky Norse. He earned Canadian Baseball Network second team honours in 2014, first team in 2013 and honourable mention in 2012. In this his sixth season with the Red Sox and the Dodgers he was at class-A Rancho Cucamonga this summer.

LHP John McLeod (Calgary, Alta.) Wake Forest Demon Deacons. He earned Canadian Baseball Network third team honours in 2014. Drafted by the Orioles, he pitched two seasons in the Baltimore orgaization.



RHP Cody Chartrand (Nanaimo, BC) of the Lewis-Clark State College Warriors. He earned Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention honours in 2014. Drafted by the Rangers, he pitched one season in the Texas system.

C Robert Tavone (Whitby, Ont.) of the Urbana University Blue Knights. He earned Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention honours in 2013. He was signed by the Atlanta Braves.

LHP Jeff Degano (Surrey, BC) of the Indiana State Sycamores. He earned Canadian Baseball Network First Team honours in 2015. He was selected in the second round by the Yankees in 2015 and has pitched three seasons in the Yankee system.

LHP Ryan Kellogg (Whitby, Ont.) of the Arizona State Sun Devils. He earned Canadian Baseball Network First Team and Player of the Year honours in 2013, as well as being a Canadian Baseball Network First team honoree in 2014 and Second Team honoree in 2015. He was drafted in the fifth round in 2015 and this summer, his fifth season in the Cubs system, he pitched at class-A Myrtle Beach..

OF-1B Connor Panas (Toronto Ont.) Canisius Golden Griffins. Panas was the Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Year in 2015 and earned First Team honours as he did in 2014 to go with Honorable Mention in 2012-13. He was drafted in the ninth round by the Blue Jays and played three seasons in the system and this year suiting up for the Can-Am League’s Quebec Capitales.


RHP Devon Stewart (Maple Ridge, BC) Canisius. He picked up Canadian Baseball Network Third Team honors in 2015 and was a Canadian Baseball Network Honourable Mention in 2012. Stewart was a ninth round selection of the Indians and pitched two seasons in the Clevelan organization.

C Owen Spiwak (Mississauga, Ont.) Odessa Wranglers. Spiwak earned Canadian Baseball Network Second Team honours in 2015. He was selected in the 10th round by the Blue Jays and played four seasons in the Toronto system.

OF Cole Bauml (Marysburg, Sask.) Northern Kentucky Norse, earned Canadian Baseball Network Second Team honors in 2015. The Tigers chose him in the 10th round and played four seasons in the Detroit system before retiring after the 2018 season.

OF Tristan Graham (North Vancouver, BC) Northeast Texas Eagles. He earned a berth on the Canadian Baseball Network First Team in 2015. He was selected by the Orioles in the 22nd round. In this his third pro season he spent time this summer with class-A Aberdeen.

RP Reign Letkeman (Red Deer, Alta.) Big Bend Runnin’ Vikes. He gained Honourable Mention honours on the Canadian Baseball Network 2014 team. Letkeman was selected in the 23rd round by the Rays and pitched three seasons in the Tampa Bay system. This summer he was with the Gateway Grizzlies of the independent Frontier loop.

OF Philip Diedrick (Ajax, Ont.) Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, He earned Canadian Baseball Network Honourable Mention in 2014. The Washington Nationals chose him in the 29th round, he played one season in the Nationals organization.

LHP Connor Lillis-White (Toronto, Ont.) of the University British Columba Thunderbirds. He was on the Canadian Baseball Network Second Team in 2014, the Third Team in 2015 and had Honourable Mention in 2012. He was selected in the 32nd round by the Anaheim Angels and pitched five seasons in the Angels organization.


RHP Alex Webb (Surrey, BC) UBC Thunderbirds. He earned Canadian Baseball Network First Team honours in 2015. He was chosen in the 36th round by the San Diego Padres in 2015 and the Cincinnati in the ninth round in 2016 and pitched three seasons in the Reds system.

INF Daniel Pinero (Toronto, Ont.) Virginia Cavillers. He earned Canadian Baseball Network First Team honors in 2015 and Canadian Baseball Network 2014 Second Team honors. He was chosen by the Detroit Tigers in the 36th round in 2015, the ninth round by Detroit in 2016. In his fourth year in the system he s[pent this summer with the Double A Erie SeaWolves and the Triple A Toledo Mud Hens.

INF Mattingly Romanin (Burlington, Ont.) Chicago State Cougars, He earned Canadian Baseball Network Honourable Mention in 2014-15. The Toronto Blue Jays chose him in the 39th round in 2015, and he played in the organization three seasons. He played his final year in Quebec. His pop, Mal Romanin was one of the respected members of the Blue Jays P.R. office let go by the new regime.

RHP Cal Quantrill (Port Hope, Ont.) of the Stanford Cardinal earned Canadian Baseball Network First Team honours in 2014. He was drafted by the San Diego Padres eighth overall in 2016. In his fourth year he made his major league debut May 1 against the Atlanta Braves. Quantrill went 6-8 with a 5.16 ERA in 23 games -- making 18 starts.

RHP Curtis Taylor (Port Coquitlam, BC) of the UBC Thunderbirds earned earned Canadian Baseball Network First Team honors in 2015. Drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fourth round, he pitched two seasons in the DBacks system and was dealt to the Tampa Bay Rays. In his fourth year of minor-league ball -- after starting with the Diamondbacks and being moved to the Tampa Bay Rays -- he pitched at double-A Montgomery this summer going 0-3 with a 3.06 ERA in 15 games. In August, he was acquired by the Toronto Blue Jays to complete an earlier deal that sent Eric Sogard to the Rays.


OF Jacob Robson (Windsor, Ont.) of the Mississippi State Bulldogs earned Canadian Baseball Network Second Team honors in 2015. He was chosen by the Detroit Tigers in the eighth round in 2016 and now in his fourth season is with the triple-A Toledo Mud Hens.

1B Bruce Yari (Waterloo, Ont.) of the UBC Thunderbirds received honourable mention honors on the Canadian Baseball Network 2015 All-Canadian team. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds and in his fourth season spent this summer with the Class-A Dayton Tortugas.

OF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ont.) of the Stony Brook Seawolves, received honourable mention honours on the Canadian Baseball Network 2015 and 2017 All-Canadian team. He was drafted by the Houston Astros but did not sign.

RHP Zach Pop of Kentucky earned Canadian Baseball Network 2015-16 All-Canadian team honourable mention. He was drafted by the Dodgers and impressed both the Dodgers and the Baltimore Orioles. Pop was included in the Manny Machado deal. In this his third season, he pitched at double-A Bowie.

2B Jared Young (Prince George, BC) was a Canadian Baseball Network first teamer at Old Dominion.

2B Jared Young (Prince George, BC) of Old Dominion, earned Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian team First Team honours in 2017 and Second Team honours in 2016. He was drafted by the Cubs and in his third year as a pro spent this summer for the double-A Tennessee Smokies.



OF Raphaël Gladu (Trois-Riviéres, Que.) of Louisiana Tech earned Canadian Baseball Network Second Team honours after being All-Canadian team honourable mention honours 2014-15-16. He was drafted by the New York Mets. In his third summer of pro ball he played for the class-A St. Lucie Mets and Trois Rivieres Aigles.

INF Abraham Toro-Hernandez (Greenfield Park, Que.) Seminole State Trojans, earned Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian team Second Team honours in 2016. He was selected in the fifth round by the Houston Astros. In his fourth season of pro ball he spent most of the season with triple-A Round Rock and Corpus Christi. He made his major-league debut Aug. 22 at third base in a win over the Tigers. Toro hit the two-run home run off Blue Jays closer Ken Giles in the top of the ninth on September 1 which allowed Justin Verlander to make good on his no-hit bid in his final inning of work.

OF Tanner Kirwer (Sherwood Park, Alta.) of Niagara University earned Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian team honourable mention honours in 2015 and in 2017. He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 20th round and in this his third season with the Jays organization played outfield for the class-A Lansing Lugnuts.

RHP Christian Lindsay-Young (Oakville, Ont.) of the Niagara County Thunderbirds earned Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian Third Team honours in 2016 and 2017. He did not sign and transferred to West Virginia University.

3B J.D. Osborne (Whitby, Ont.) of the Tampa Spartans earned Canadian Baseball Network 2016 All-Canadian team Second Team honours and an All-Canadian First Teamer in 2017. He was drafted by the Miami Marlins and this summer played with the class-A Greensboro Grasshoppers and the class-A Batavia Muckdogs.



INF Louis Boyd (North Vancouver, BC) of Cochise College earned Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian team honourable mention honours in 2014-15. He was drafted by the Mariners and played for the class-A Modesto Nuts and class-A Clinton Lumber Kings.

2B Jake Lumley (Windsor, Ont.) of the Canisius Golden Griffs earned Canadian Baseball Network 2016 All-Canadian team Second Team honours and Honourable Mention in 2015 and 2017. He was drafted by the Oakland Athletics and scout Matt Higginson. He played for the class-A Beloit Snappers this year.

RHP Noah Gapp (St. Albert, Alta.) of the Cumberlands Patriots, a 2017 Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian team First Teamer, pitched for the Ottawa Champions of the indy Can-Am Legue.

OF Tristan Pompey (Mississauga, Ont.) of the Kentucky Wildcats, was a 2017 Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian team First Teamer and earned Honourable Mention honours in 2016, was drafted by the Miami Marlins. Pompey played this single for the class-A Jupiter Hammerheads, class-A Greensboro Grasshoppers and Rookie-Class Gulf Coast Marlins.

OF Jonathan Lacroix (Montreal, Que.) Seminole State Trojans, was a 2017 Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian team First Teamer. In this his third pro season he was with the class-A Clinton LumberKings.

He was selected in the fourth round by the round Boston Red Sox in 2018 and in his second pro season played at class-A Salem this season.

3B Mitch Robinson (Surrey, BC) of the UBC Thunderbirds earned Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian Honourable Mention in 2017-18 He was drafted in the 21st round by the New York Yankees and is in his second pro season In his second season played this summer for class-A Staten Island Yankees and the class-A Charleston RiverDogs.

He was selected in the 24th round by the Seattle Mariners and this summer, in his third pro season, pitched for the class-A West Virginia Power.

RHP Jake Sims (Guelph, Ont.) of the Roane State Raiders, earned 2017 Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian team Honourable Mention. He was drafted from the Saint Leo Lions in the 31st round by the San Diego Padres and in his second pro season pitched for the class-A Tri-City Dust Devils.

LHP J.P. Stevenson (New Glasgow, PEI) of the Canisius Golden Griffs was an Canadian Baseball Network First Teamer in 2017 and 2018. He was not drafted, signed with Quebec and this summer pitched for the Dohren Wild Farmers in Germany.

RHP RJ Freure (Burlington, Ont.) of the Pitt Panthers was an Canadian Baseball Network First Teamer in 2018. Drafted in the sixth round by the Astros, he spent his second season with the class-A Quad Cities River Bandits.

OF Tristan Pompey (Mississauga, Ont.) of the Kentucky Wildcats earned Canadian Baseball Network all-Canadian First Team honours in 2017 and 2018, as well as Honourable Mention honours in 2016. He was selected in the third round of the 2018 draft by the Miami Marlins. Now in his second year, he spent this summer with class-A Jupiter.



LHP Erik Sabrowski (Edmonton, Alta.) of the St. Cloud T-Birds, a Canadian Baseball Network third teamer as a lefty and a second teamer as a DH in 2018. Drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 14th round, Sabrowski missed the season as he was recovering from Tommy John surgery.

RHP Nick Trogrlic-Iverson (Oakville, Ont.) of the Central Arizona Vaqueros, a Canadian Baseball Network third teamer in 2018, was drafted in the 15th round by the Brewers. He chose to attend Gonzaga University rather than signing.

1B Kyle MacDonald (Mississauga, Ont.) of Arkansas State Red Wolves, a Canadian Baseball Network third teamer in 2018, as well earning honourable mention in 2016-17, was drafted in the 27th round by the Yankees. He played for the Rookie Class Gulf Coast Yankees - West this summer.

RHP Brandon Marklund (North Vancouver, BC) of the Bryan Lions was a Canadian Baseball Network honourable mention in 2018. An undrafted free agent he signed with the Royals and this season pitched at class-A Lexington.

RHP Brandon Marklund (North Vancouver, BC) took the long road to pro ball, but he is doing well with the Royals.
