Before Canadian sandlot teams headed south for March break -- to strut their stuff in front of recruiters and pro scouts -- they continued their indoor winter workouts.
In the old days, like maybe nine years ago, the Major League Scouting Bureau roamed from Quebec to British Columbia hunting for talent. Now, players still hit in cages until they have blisters, try to improve their mechanics and velocity ... and scouts drop by for a look see.
It is not as organized as when Walt Burrows ran the show and cross checkers from south of the border would fly into Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto or Montreal. But the scouts still come and they evaluate. The evaluators will adjudge again when Canucks teams are in Florida or Arizona ... leading to the July draft.
A look at who showed well at indoor camps ....

His fastball topped out at 89 mph. Showed a loose arm with easy velocity. His curveball has two-plane break and is a swing and miss pitch. Works on both lefties and righties. Changeup is developing and has arm side run with depth.
RHP Braxton Rivait (Hamilton, Ont.) 2026 Grad, uncommitted
Topped out at 90 mph, but sits 88-89. Has a whippy arm that creates arm side run and sink. Slider is more of a sweeper and a plus pitch. Big swing and miss with up to 22” horizontal movement. His change has good arm side run and fade. Uncomfortable at bat especially for right-handed hitters.
Terriers RHP Stiaan Henning (Oakville, Ont.)
RHP Stiaan Henning (Oakville, Ont.) 2027 Grad, uncommitted
Flashed 86-88 mph with a tall frame that gets good ride on his fastball. The ball jumps out of his hand. Has a 12-to-6 curveball that has the ability to be plus pitch. Splitter has really good downward movement and is tough to pick up out of the hand. More to come with the frame. New to baseball in Canada after moving from South Africa last year. Will probably be on South African Junior National Team at the 18u world qualifiers.
LHP Brett Crowley (Peterborough, Ont.) 2028 Grad, uncommitted
He was 84 mph showing plus command on all pitches. Plus movement on fastball. Can throw it up in the zone and also run and sink it on his two-seam fastball. His curveball works to both sides of the plate and can throw for a strike and also swing and miss. Changeup has good fade to it with good arm speed for deception. Knows how to pitch in game, competitor.

OF 2026 Quinn Lightfoot (Caledon, Ont.) 6’6/215
Physical and super athletic. Legitimate five-tool player. Going to have a chance to play for a long time if he can put it all together. Fantastic young man, selfless teammate and a leader.
C 2026 Sean Bradley (Toronto, Ont.) 6’3/205, C-Missouri State.
A physical presence behind the plate with big time arm strength. Continues to get better day after day, has really put a lot of work into the defensive side this winter and it shows. Going to receive at a high level and has a chance to hit in the middle of the order. A Missouri State commit in the 2026 class.
INF-RHP 2025 Adyn Schell (Toronto, Ont.), C-Missouri State.
An extremely good athlete with plus tools on both sides of the ball. Will be interesting to see where scouts view him more going into the draft this summer. With arm strength to stay on the left side and middle of the order type bat, there is a lot to like about him as a position player. He has also been up to 92 on the mound. Commands the ball exceptionally well and has a chance to have three above average pitches at the next level. A member of the Junior National Team and has also committed to Missouri State.
INF-RHP 2027 Ramsey Chung (Mississuga, Ont.)
One of the most talented kids in the country in his class. Extremely talented on both sides of the ball, like Schell will have a chance to continue to do both at the next level. Gap-to-gap power and a fastball that’s been up to 89 mph. He has a chance to be very special.
Mississauga Tigers RHP Damarcus Rideout-Carter (Brampton, Ont.)
RHP 2027 Damarcus Rideout-Carter (Brampton, Ont.)
After a strong showing in the fall, and a big winter he has really put himself a great position heading into this spring. His added strength and easy repeatable delivery, there is a lot to love about him. He is one of those where sky truly is the ceiling. Fastball was 87-89 and he possesses two above average secondary offerings and commands the ball very well. If he can stay healthy, he could play pro ball for a long time.
2028 RHP Jackson Rouse (Toronto, Ont.)
One of the youngest kids at the workout. He stands out immediately with his prototypical body of what you look for in a pitcher: Tall, long, lean and athletic. He moves very well for a young pitcher and repeats his delivery very well. Fastball was 83-86 and showed ability to spin the ball. Going to be a very good follow and will be a big-time arm in the coming years.
2028 LHP-CF Jaden Simpson (Erin, Ont.)
Another special talent. A two-way player with a big-time, left-handed hit tool and already very polished on the mound. Was the best player at the 15u National championships Ray Carter Cup a year ago and really put himself on the map this past year.
Scouts: Athletics, Blue Jays (two), Rangers, plus Junior National Team coach Greg Hamilton.

Okotoks Dawgs
Okotoks, Alta.
At Duvernay Fieldhouse
Coaches: Tyler Hollick, Jeff Duda, Lou Pote.
2025 Tim Piasentin INF (Coquitlam, BC), C-Miami.
Showed an exit velocity of 109 mph. At 6-foot-5, Piasentin is a presence in the box. The 2024 Canadian Futures Showcase Home Run Derby champion had a great showing. Projects to be an athletic corner infielder or outfielder at the next level. Possessing advanced arm strength for a high school senior, having been up to 99 mph across the infield. A lot to like in him, the question in July will be whether he goes to Miami or elects to play pro.
2025 Louis-Charles Larouche OF (St-Jean-Richelieu, Que.) C-San Jose.
Had an exit velocity of 107 mph and the San Jose State Commit has raw power. He has a short compact swing from the left side. A strong lower half, an excellent ability to truly have accelerate his barrel to and through contact. A lot of loud contact out of him who may project best as a corner outfielder at the next level.
2027 Taye Thierman C (Calgary, Alta.)
Had an exit velocity of 100 mph as the Junior National Team member had a good showing, showcasing not only power on the offensive side of the ball but cleaner, improved actions behind the dish. Pop times consistently in the 1.8’s makes the 2027 a standout in his class. Offensively, he is strong, utilizing all of his 6’3 frame. A good feel for the barrel and ability to produce a lot of loud contact throughout his rounds.
Pitchers
2025 RHP Robert Scalzo (Brentwood Bay, BC) C-Utah.
Clocked at 93-96 mph, the 6-foot-3 RHP brought the heat. The Utah commit possesses a three-pitch mix, featuring a plus change up, along with a slider. He looks significantly stronger after the off-season. He could see significant velocity increases in the coming years as he continues to fill out and grows into his body.
Okotoks Dawgs RHP Max Poirier (Nanaimo, BC) has committed to the Miami Hurricanes.
2025 RHP Max Poirier (Nanaimo, BC) C-Miami.
Clocked at 90-93 mph, he may be one of the most intriguing 2025 arms in the country. The Miami commit has plus feel for his arsenal, along with a unique delivery. The 6-foot-5, 185-pounder is all arms and legs. An effortless, repeatable delivery allows the Junior National Team member to have his fastball jump on hitters. Plenty of movement East/West makes him an uncomfortable at bat for many hitters.
2027 LHP Josh Mills (Okotoks, Alta.)
Was 86-88 mph, but his draft is 28 months away, which makes him one of the more intriguing pitchers on the day. He possesses a three-pitch mix, showcased repeatability and consistency on the mound. At 6-foot-3, Mills fits the bill on the mound and his pitch ability as a sophomore makes him an intriguing arm to watch in the coming years.
2025 RHP Preston Tocheniuk (Okotoks, Alta.) C-Panola.
Sat at 88-90 mph, yet had arguably the best bullpen of the day. He was able to command all four of his pitches (fastballs, change, curve and slider). The 6-foot-4 RHP has plus feel for his pitches but put on a clinic in all quadrants of the zone. His fastball velocity plays higher due to his ability to mix speeds, specifically showcasing a plus change and two distinct shapes on his breaking balls.
Scouts: Blue Jays (two), Braves, Brewers, Nationals, Phillies, Padres, Reds, Rangers and Junior National Team coach Greg Hamilton.
