The round-robin phase ended and the 32-team playoff portion of the annual Perfect Game World Wood Bat World Championship took place all in the same day.

Impressing before upwards of 300 college recruiters and pro scouts were a number of Canadians at Roger Dean Complex -- home to both the St. Louis Cardinals and the Miami Marlins -- in Jupiter, Fla.

RHPs Ben Abram (Georgetown, Ont.), Lukas Barry (Mississauga, Ont.), Kayden Beauregard (Abbotsford, BC), Jake Ervin (Mississauga, Ont.) and Thomas Murphy (Whitby, Ont.) all did well.

RHPs Ben Abram (Georgetown, Ont.) and Thomas Murphy (Whitby, Ont.) worked together for a three-hit shutout as the Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team knocked off the East Cobb Astros of East Cobb, Ga., 4-0.

Abram, of the Ontario Terriers, allowed one hit in four innings, walking two and striking out five. In his 54-pitch outing (66% strikes) his fastball was clocked at 89 MPH.

Toronto Mets`Murphy tossed three innings giving up two hits and striking out one. He threw 81% strikes in his 32-pitch outing as his best fastball was clocked at 87 MPH.

The win put the Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team into the round of 32 with a 2-0-1 record.

With first-place in pool play on the line, the Ontario Blue Jays were in trouble.

Down a run in the bottom of the seventh the first hitter LF Ethan Hammond (Oakville, Ont.) reached. That was the good news. But the bad news was 1B Jake Ervin (Mississauga, Ont.) was unable to get a bunt down.

With two strikes coach Mike Steed (Burlington, Ont.) took off the bunt, Ervin swung away and hit the ball over the head of a diving centre fielder. Steed waved Hammond on to score and he kept waving as Ervin scored with a game-winning, walk-off, two-run homer On Marlins Field No. 3. The drive gave the Ontario Blue Jays an 8-7 win over Cangelosi Sparks of Lockport, Ill., a perfect 3-0 record in pool play and a berth in the round of 32.

The home run made a winner of Stephen Kinal (Terra Cotta, Ont.) after his 4 2/3 outing. He allowed three runs -- two earned -- on six hits. Kinal struck out six in his 56-pitch outing (78 strikes). His fastball was clocked at 86.

Adam Hill (Mississauga, Ont.) started and pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up four runs on six hits and two walks. He fanned three in his 49 pitch effort (59%) topping out at 87. 

2B Tyler Small (Mississauga, Ont.), 3B Ryan Johnston (Oakville, Ont.), C Alex Seelman (Georgetown, Ont.) and CF Austin Wilkie (Mississauga, Ont.) each had two hits, with Wilkie hitting a apair of doubles and knocking in three runs. The other hits went to SS Noah Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.), DH TJ Sam-Schofield (Brampton, Ont.) and RF Blake Buckle (Milton, Ont.) who doubled in a run.

The Ontario Blue Jays advanced in the first round of the playoffs with a 2-1 win against the Padres Scout Team/Chandler World of Winter Garden, Fla. in the first round of the playoffs.  

Lukas Barry (Mississauga, Ont.) pitched a complete-game 90-pitch gem allowing one hit and striking out nine. His best fastball was at 86 MPH and 66% on his pitches were strikes. Barry pitched a 1-2-3 seventh (pop up, comebacker, ground ball).

3B TJ Sam-Schofield (Brampton, Ont.) singled leading off the second and scored on a two-out double by Jake Ervin (Mississauga, Ont.). DH Robbie Costa opened the fifth with a walk, moved to second on a ground ball out and scored on a single by Ryan Johnston (Oakville, Ont.). The other hit went to C Noah Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.).

Five DBacks Langley Blaze used five pitchers to toss a two hitter in a 5-0 win against Team Elite Prime of Winder, Ga. 

Trevin Hope of Blaine, Wash. pitched three scoreless before Ontario Yankees’ Zach McQuaid (Oshawa, Ont.), who hit 89 MPH with his fastball, Travis McDougall (Abbotsford, BC), who struck out one as his fastball registered 87, Tate Dearing (Surrey, BC), who hit 90 MPH and Colby Ring (Langley, BC) who allowed one hit, each pitch one scoreless inning. The win gave the Blaze a 2-1 record and allowed them to advance to the playoff round.

C Kayden Beauregard (Abbotsford, BC)

C Kayden Beauregard (Abbotsford, BC) singled and knocked in a run, while others hits went to Joshua Marchese (Burnaby, BC) and 3B Spencer Todd (Windsor, Ont.) of the Windsor Selects.

Dodgers Scout Team/Team Citius scored eight time in the third inning for a 9-4 win against the DBacks Langley Blaze in the playoff round. 
 
C Kayden Beauregard (Abbotsford, BC) had two hits while 1B Ryan Magdic (Beamsville, Ont.) of the Ontario Royals, DH Joshua Marchese (Burnaby, BC), 3B Cesar Valero (Calgary, Alta.) of the Okotoks Dawgs and LF Noah London (Whitby, Ont.) of the Ontario Yankees had the other hits.

Kenneth Aguayo of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, started and took the loss allowing three runs in 2 1/3 innings. Next was Shane Laforest (Belle River, Ont.) who allowed three runs and RHP Jared Anderson (Victoria, BC) allowed three in 2/3 of an inning on three hits and a walk. 

Zach McQuaid (Oshawa, Ont.) of the Ontariro Yankees pitched two scoreless giving up a hit and striking out one and Colby Ring (Langley, BC) worked a scoreless frame.

RF Denzel Clarke (Pickering, Ont.) singled, knocked in a run and scored twice as the Rawlings National Scout Team knocked off the East Cobb Astros 8-3. Clarke walked twice so officiaally was 1-for-1.
