The first time we heard the saying “It’s a long way to come for this,” was uttered by Kingston Ponies 3B Don Goodridge and referred to an umpire’s call.

But we’re heard it 100s of times over the years.

“It’s a long way to come for this.”

The DBacks Langley Blaze reached the round of 16 at the Perfect Game USA World Wood Bat World championship Round of 16 in Jupiter.

The Blaze play in the British Columbia Premier League and were set to face the Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team, a team put together by Blue Jays scouts.

Who should trot out to face the Blaze, but Jack Seward (Port Moody, BC) of the Coquitlam Reds of the BC Premier League.

“It’s a long way to come for this.”

In his second start of the tourney, Seward pitched four scoreless as the Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team blanked the DBacks Langley Blaze 8-0.

Seward allowed one hit and two walks, while shiffing five. He threw 55 pitches (58% strikes) and hit 93 MPH on the gun.

Along with a reliever, Seward combined on a one hitter against the Blaze, which consists of seven BC players, along with additions from Ohio, Georgia and Hawaii.

We mentioned the other day how RHP Julian Parson (Mississauga, Ont.) had played for Mississauga SouthWest Twins coach Aaron Thompson. So did Monterrey, Coles and Skorupski.

Scout’s blog: San Jacinto CC commit Jack Seward (2020, Port Moody, British Columbia) was very good for the Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team in their second playoff game of the day, allowing just one hit in four shutout innings while striking out five batters. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound righthanded pitcher has a lot of positive components, with good physical projection, athleticism to the delivery and some very impressive present stuff. The arm stroke is quick and clean through the back and he pounded the zone with the fastball. The heater was very good, peaking at 92 mph and sitting 88-90 with plus life, breaking a number of bats as the fastball bore in on right handed hitters and off the barrel of left handed hitters. Seward’s slider was short and tight, with hard, late break and mimicking the fastball nicely from a similar arm slot and a close velocity range at 80-84 mph. Seward is a solid prospect and one to watch next spring to see if that velocity continues to tick upward.
