It’s not news that the three Naylor brothers wore uniforms for the Mississauga North Tigers, Ontario Blue Jays and the Junior National Team.
And in each case they wore it well, going on to be the top Canadian drafted in their respective draft years.
As we update our annual list of Canadians given six-figure signing bonuses, RHP Jameson Taillon of The Woodlands Tex. High school remains No. 1 given a $6.5 million bonus from the Pittsburgh Pirates. The right-hander’s mother is from the Kennedy Road area in Toronto and his father is from St. Andrews West in eastern Ontario. Taillon has pitched for Canada in the World Baseball Classic.
Next comes Cal Quantrill, who was given $3,963,045 by the San Diego Padres. Quantrill (Port Hope Ont.) played for the Terriers and was drafted in the first round from the Stanford University Cardinals.
And in third place is LHP Adam Loewen (Surrey BC), who was selected fourth overall in North American from the Whalley Chiefs by the Baltimore Orioles, who handed out a $3.2 million deal.
Now, we get to the No. 4, 5 and 6 spots on our highest paid list of Canucks and it goes like this
4. Naylor
5. Naylor
6. Naylor
You got it ... the lineup card reads like the softball game at a Naylor Family picnic.
The top Naylor is C Noah Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.), who went 29th overall to the Cleveland Guardians in 2018 and was given a $2,578,138 bonus.
Fifth overall is 1B Josh Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) selected 12th overall by the Miami Marlins and signed for $2.5 million. Now the two share the same clubhouse with the Guardians.
And in the sixth spot on our all-time list is INF Myles Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) drafted by the Oakland A’s and scout Matt Higginson (Grimsby, Ont.) in July. Myles was given a bonus of $2,202,500. Or should that be the soon-to-be Las Vegas A’s?
If you are accounting along at home our Kingston math shows that the three brothers have earned $7,280,638.
Here are our top 30 ... with a link to a complete list of the 181 Canadians given six-figure signing bonuses
