RHP Lukas Barry (Mississauga, Ont.) pitched four innings to help the Ontario Blue Jays win the opener of the 20th annual Perfect Game WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Fla.

The 20th annual Perfect Game WWBA World Championship got underway in Jupiter, Fla. on Thursday.

The Ontario Blue Jays opened regulation play in the 88-team tournament by steam rolling the Reds Midwest Scout Team 11-1 thanks to five third-inning runs.

Dasan Brown (Oakville, Ont.) opened the inning with a single to left. After a balk, TJ Schofield-Sam (Brampton, Ont.) and Jaden Brown (Mississauga, Ont.) were each hit by pitches. An out later Joel McKnight (Whitby, Ont.) was hit by a pitch and David Coleman (Mississauga, Ont.) walked to knocked in a run. Ashton Feijo (Mississauga, Ont.) singled in a pair of runs and Khalid Collymore (Mississauga, Ont.) doubled in a run.

David McCabe (Courtice, Ont.) doubled in three runs, as McKnight doubled in a run and Collymore had the other extra-base hit.

Lukas Barry (Mississauga, Ont.) pitched four solid innings giving up one run on two hit and three walks, while he whiffed four. Barry threw 57 pitches (87% strikes) hitting 87 mph and averaging 84 mph. Caden Griffin (Nepean, Ont.) finished up with two scoreless allowing one runner - a walk - and striking out two. He threw 35 pitched (60% strikes) hitting 87 mph and averaging 85.

Dawgs I: Okotoks Dawgs’ 3B Cesar Valero (Calgary, Alta.) singled for one of the Toronto Blue Jays Scout teams in a 2-0 loss to the Upstate Mavericks.

The P and P show: CF Nathan Primeau (Laval, Que.) and 2B Emilien Pitre (Repentigny, Que.) each had hits as Team Elite Nation were edged 1-0 by the Giants Scout Team/FTB. Team Elite outhit the Giants Scout Team 4-2, but a fourth-inning triple was the difference.

Dawgs II: Okotoks Dawgs’ Micah McDowell (Coldbrook, NS) singled for Baseball Northwest National in a 10-0 loss to the Braves Scout Team/Team Elite. The Braves outhit Northwest National 8-6, but had help from four errors.

Bragging rights: Before the first official pitch was thrown, the Dbacks Langley Blaze battled the Ontario Blue Jays in an exhibition game for the official bragging rights as the best travel team in Canada on the grounds at Jupiter.

The Blaze, thanks to three runs in the top of the seventh, scored a 6-4 win over the Ontario Blue Jays. The Dbacks had pick ups from Puerto Rico, Ohio, Kentucky, California, Washington and Hawaii.

Toronto Mets Ryan Leitch (Whitby, Ont.) went 3-for-4.

Shane Sasaki led off the decisive seventh with a double and scored the tying run on a single to left by C Holdem Cumiskey (Surrey, BC). One out later, Ryan Leitch (Whitby, Ont.) singled in the winning run. Jean Gorge Rivera Navarro then singled in a run.

Leitch was 3-for-4 and drove in a run, while SS Ryan Beitel (Cloverdale, BC) was 2-2 with a double. On the mound both Ryan Scott (Quispamsis, NB), who picked up the win, and Hayden Pilmer (Leamington, Ont.) each had their fastballs clocked at 91 MPH. Scott pitched 2 1/3 scoreless allowing one unearned run on two hits and two walks, as he fanned one. Pilmer worked 1 1/3 innings allowing three runs -- one earned -- on three hits and two walks. He fanned three.

Scott had a 38-pitch outing (57% strikes) averaging 89mph, while Pilmer threw 40 pitches (57% strikes) averaging 88 mph on his fastball. LHP Taisei Yahiro (Abbotsford, BC) started and pitched two scoreless allowing one walk and striking out four in two innings. Yahiro worked consistently in the 83-86 mph range and complemented his fastball with a 74-mph curve ball.

Langley Blaze Ryan Scott (Quispamsis, NB) hit 91 with his fastball to pick up the win.

Former Mississauga Southwest Twin Julian Parson (Mississauga, Ont.) worked two scoreless for Ontario Blue Jays allowing one hit and a walk, striking out two.

3B Christian Leone (Nobleton, Ont.) led the way for the Ontario Blue Jays offence with a double and a single, while Robert Lindsay (Mississauga, Ont.) also had a pair of knocks. Nick Digennaro (Oakville, Ont.) knocked in a run, while the other hits went to Joshua Cipolla (Oakville, Ont.) and Sean Pettener (Hamilton, Ont.).

Beside Parson, Nick Fraser (Burlington, Ont.) pitched two scoreless giving up two hits and a walk, wile fanning three. He threw 32 pitches (71% strikes) hitting 90 mph and averaging 88. RHP Ryan Kush (Guelph, Ont.) was next pitching two innings allowing one run on five hits while striking out five. He threw 45 pitches (62% strikes) and hit 88 mph, averaging 85.

Jason Zhang (Ottawa, Ont.) threw 34 pitches (61% strikes) in the seventh his fastball at 88 mph. He gave up five hits and walked one, striking out one.
