Elliott: PG Day II - Kowara, McNight, Saldias, Thorsteinson

OF Dasan Brown (Oakville, Ont.) had a three-hit day and drove in two runs for the Ontario Blue Jays at the 20th annual Perfect Game event in Jupiter, Fla.

Dasan Brown didn’t take the Sandlot Scout Team down town.

Brown merely took them down.

Yet, Ontario Blue Jays centre fielder went 3-for-4 as the Jays scored a 6-3 win against the Sandlot Scout Team 6-3 to move to 2-0 on Day II of the 20th annual Perfect Game WWBA World Championship in Jupiter, Fla.

Brown (Oakville, Ont.) led off the first with a double to left, doubled to centre in the second knocking in a pair of runs for a 3-1 lead and dropped a bunt single in the fourth. Brown is hitting .500 through two games.

Brandon Deans (Mississauga, Ont.) earned the win for allowing three runs on three hits and two walks. He struck out four in 3 1/3 innings. He worked consistently in the 84-87 mph range throwing 58 pitches (58% strikes).

Ontario Blue Jays RP Nico Saldias (Pickering, Ont.) gained the win with 2 2/3 scoreless innings of work.

Nico Saldias (Pickering, Ont.) was next in relief working 2 2/3 scoreless. He gave up one hit and whiffed four to gain the mound victory. Saldias was consistently in the 80-83mph throwing 29 pitches (65% strikes). Lukas Touma (Whitby, Ont.) pitched a scoreless seventh striking out the side on 18 pitches (66% strikes).

David McCabe (Courtice, Ont.) was 2-for-2, with a double, and is hitting .625 through two games. Joel McKnight (Brooklin, Ont.) went 2-for-3 and is hitting .500 through two games.

Arthur Kowara (Toronto, Ont.) also drove in two runs while David Coleman (Mississauga, Ont.) and Khalid Collymore (Mississauga, Ont.) knocked in one apiece.

Dasan Brown is ranked 347th-best player in the North America by Perfect Game, while Deans, McCabe and McKnight are ranked among the Top 1000 players.

Game III: Georgia PG Texas Orange scored four runs in the first three innings and then held on to a 4-3 victory over the Ontario Blue Jays, who fell to 2-1.

INF Josh Golden (Toronto, Ont.) singled and drove in a run in the Ontario Blue Jays’ loss.

Josh Golden (Toronto, Ont.) singled and knocked in a run. Joshua Cipolla (Oakville, Ont.) had the other hit, while Ashton Feijo (Mississauga, Ont.) drove in the other run.

LHP Alex Coles (Milton, Ont.) started and worked two innings allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out a pair and did not walk a man. He threw 36 pitches (58% strikes), his fastball peaking at 82mph.

Nicolas Castonguay (Mississauga, Ont.) pitched one inning allowing an unearned run on one hit and one walk. He threw 25 pitches (48% strikes), while his fastball was clocked at 82mph. Mason Robertson (Orillia, Ont.) worked 1 2/3 scoreless walking three and fanning three in his 32-pitch day (50% strikes), as he hit 85. Grayden Stauffer (Oshawa, Ont.) retired the final hitter.

Langley wins opener: The DBacks Langley Blaze came out rolling with an 8-0 win against the Rawlings National Scout Team. Toronto Mets’ 1B Ryan Leitch (Whitby, Ont.) singled to drive in a run.

Ohio’s Tyler Kean pitched a four hitter for the Blaze.

DBacks Langle Blaze LHP Justin Thorsteinson (Langley, BC) fanned six in three innings in a 1-0 win against the Diamond Devils.

That rhymes with T.

And that stands for Justin Thorsteinson (Langley, BC) in a 1-0 win over the Diamond Devils.

Working in relief for the DBacks Langley Blaze, Thorsteinson allowed two hits and two walks, striking out six batters in three innings. Thorsteinson’s fastball was 89mph as he averaged 85-88. Thorsteinson is ranked 229th-best player in the country by Perfect Game for the 2020 draft.

Ohio’s Duncan Hall started and worked four innings allowing one hit.

SS Ryan Beitel (Langley, BC) had a base hit, as did Holdem Cumiskey (Surrey, BC) as the Blaze managed only four hits. Beitel is hitting .500 through three games.

Scout Team’s Game II: GBG Marucci rolled by the Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team 12-2 as both INF Cesar Valero (Calgary, Alta.) and Great Lake Canadian C Owen Diodati (Niagara Falls, Ont.) were held hitless.

The Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team is now 0-2.

Team Elite Game II: Iowa Select scored six times in the first inning to thump the Team Elite Nation 7-1.

3B Will Perrin (Terrebonne, Que.) singled for Team Elite, which is now 0-2.

Watching: Okotoks Dawgs’ Micah McDowell (Coldbrook, NS) did not play as Baseball Northwest National beat the Richmond Braves 10-0.
