The Oshawa Legionaires 16U team are heading south for spring training. The Legionaires are headed to North Orlando Fla. and the Boombah Sports Complex.

They willl stay in Altamonte Springs, Fla. and play their games in Sanford, Fla. Sanford is the home of Hall of Famer Tim Raines, who starred with the Montreal Expos.

Besides eight games also booked into the schedule are tickets to see the Atlanta Braves play the Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater, the Yale Bulldogs meet the University of Central Florida and the University of South Carolina Gamecocks play the Georgia Bulldogs.

Denny Berni’s Pro Teach Baseball will be taking three teams to Florida this month.

The Etobicoke Rangers 15U, 16U and 17U are headed to Fort Pierce, Fla., while the 18U team will stay at home and work on school work -- preparing for a later trip to Cuba.

The Brampton Royals are sending one club to the St. Pete’s, their 15U group.

Their 16U and 17U teams opted to add an extra US tournament during the summer, rather make the Florida trip. Meanwhile the Brampton 18U team is staying home to study and then going to BC again first weekend in June for the Langley Blaze Invitational.

The key day when the four Ontario Blue Jays head south is likely when a doubleheader against Academy Baseball Canada of Montreal on March 11.

There is always a rivalry between Ontario and Quebec teams. Like in hockey the Toronto Maple Leafs get wound up to play the Montreal Canadiens. Yet, as former Habs boss Sam Pollock used to say when he ran the Toronto Blue Jays “It was never a rivalry on our end -- the Leafs were never any good. Now, Boston-Montreal ... that was a rivalry.”

Pitching against the ABC in Game 1 for the 18U Ontario Blue Jays are RHPs Lukas Barry (Mississauga, Ont.), Brandon Deans (Mississauga, Ont.) and Adian Hill (Mississauga, Ont.).

And in Game 2, the Ontario Blue Jays will pitch LHP Caden Griffin (Ottawa, Ont.), LHP Mason Robertson (Orillia, Ont.) and RHP Lukas Touma (Whitby, Ont.).

The Ontario Terriers are taking four teams south for spring training.

The Terriers are headed for Baseball City in St. Petersburg Fla. (7901 30th Ave. St. Petersburg), the former spring facility of the Tampa Bay Rays.

INF Austin Gomm (Mississauga, Ont.) has committed to play for the Virginia Commonwealth Rams and coach Mike McRae (Niagara Falls, Ont.) this fall, as has LHP Campbell Ellis (Georgetown, Ont.). LHP Connor O’Halloran (Mississauga, Ont.) is headed to the University of Michigan in 2020.

Others off to school are C Matt Ward (Mississauga, Ont.) Niagara University, RHP Owen MacNeil (Georgetown, Ont.) University of Charleston, 1B Tyler Offman (Thornhill, Ont.) New York University, Andrew Haynes (Toronto, Ont.), Shippensburg University and RHP SAM Worthen (Guelph, Ont.) Wilson University.

Others are C Brendan McQuinn (Tiny, Ont.) Eastern Oklahoma College, C-INF Jacob Mahoney (Toronto, Ont.) Lake Michigan College, INF AJ Karosas (Mississauaga, Ont.)
