Over the years the exhibition game has been billed as the two Canadian teams battling for the “bragging rights as the best group of high schoolers in Canada.”
The Brewers Langley Blaze (formerly the DBacks Langley Blaze) facing the Ontario Blue Jays on the eve of the Perfect Game World Wood Bat championship tourney in Jupiter, Fla.
However, in this pandemic year to forget the Brewers Langley Blaze only had five Canadians on their roster. The Ontario Blue Jays used one arm from Florida and another from Alabama.
Yet, we can assume that the bragging will continue after the Mississauga based team edged the Langley, B.C. team 7-4 before the 22nd annual event of the year began in Fort Myers, Fla.
RHP James Wilson (Toronto, Ont.) earned the win, pitching three scoreless, allowing one hit and two walks. Wilson, eligible for 2022 draft was consistently in the 83-85 MPH range.
Glenn Noronha (Mississagua, Ont.) had a pair of hits, while Alex Ellert (White City, Sask.) singled. Aiden McAskie (Toronto, Ont.), Nathan McCabe (Oshawa, Ont.) Cole Patrick (Markham, Ont.), C Lucas Johnson (Burlington, Ont.), Noronha and Ellert each drove in runs for the Jays.
RHP Ben Roberts (Burlington, Ont.), of the Great Lake Canadians, allowed three runs on two hits and a walk, while striking out a pair in his 1 2/3 innings of work.
2B Nathan Kirkpatrick (Surrey, BC) of the Blaze doubled.
