Ex-Terriers Ellis, Ward, Worthen shine in U.S college ranks

This is the final edition of the 2022 Terriers college baseball roundup and it features five alumni.

Karosas recognized for strong season

AJ Karosas of the Erie Community College Kats was named to the Division III All-Region III Second Team and the All-West Division Team. Karosas played in 50 games and hit .340 to help the Kats to a 43-12-1 record.

Ellis ends regular season with even record

Left-handed pitcher Campbell Ellis allowed an unearned run on two hits in four innings as the Virginia Commonwealth Rams thumped Fordham 17-1 in Game 1 of their series. Ellis struck out four and improved to 4-4 on the year. He closes out the regular season with 63 innings pitched and a 3.00 ERA over 18 starts. The Rams face Richmond in Game 1 of the Atlantic-10 Conference Tournament on Tuesday.

Ward, Purple Eagles prep for conference tournament

A series sweep of Quinnipiac sends Niagara University into the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament riding a five-game winning streak. Matt Ward had three hits, a walk, three RBIs and was hit by a pitch in the three games. Ward completes the regular season with a .280 average in 45 games played, 41 starts, and a .984 fielding percentage. The Purple Eagles will meet Canisius in Game 1 of the conference tournament on Wednesday.

MacNeil opens Regional play

Owen MacNeil got the ball for the University of Charleston in Game 1 of the Atlantic Regional against Millersville. MacNeil threw six innings and gave up four runs on six hits. The right-hander walked three and struck out two. He took the loss in the 9-4 defeat. The Golden Eagles season came to an end Sunday after a 6-3 loss to East Stroudsburg. The former Terrier finished with a 7-4 record to go along with a 3.99 ERA.

Worthen with scoreless appearance

In his 19th appearance of the year, Sam Worthen spun 1 1/3 scoreless innings in D'Youville's 3-1 loss to Penn State-Mont Alto. The righty surrendered one hit, walked one and struck out one. He finishes up the season with 20 appearances, 33 1/3 innings pitched and a 4.05 ERA.

O'Halloran has a hit

The Butler Bulldogs season is in the books. Ryan O'Halloran had a hit and walked twice in the final four games of the season. He concludes the year having played in all 56 games, while hitting .256. The Bulldogs went 20-35-1.
