Fitzpatrick: Piasentin hoping to turn heads of pro scouts at Canadian Futures Showcase

Tim Piasentin has set himself up in great position for his final year of eligibility ahead of the 2025 MLB draft.
Ranked second on the Canadian Baseball Network’s draft list, the third baseman/shortstop has already committed to the University of Miami.
Piasentin (Coquitlam, B.C.) and some Miami school representatives met at a PBR Future Games event in 2023. An invitation for a campus tour and then the commitment followed shortly after.
“Everything about their program seems amazing. They get guys drafted every year, it’s a great program,” said Piasentin, “Plus, it’s Miami. They’re in an awesome conference.”

With the heights that he’s aiming for though, Piasentin may not need to wait to be drafted out of Miami. With his college commitment under his belt, there’s less pressure on him at this year’s Futures Showcase.
Playing for a stacked Team New Blue (five of the top players on the Canadian Baseball Network’s 2025’s draft list are on it), a lot of eyes should naturally be drawn to the diamond when he’s on it.
“Since I already have my college commitment all sorted, I’m hoping to get more exposure in front of pro scouts and see where things go from there,” explained Piasentin.
There certainly is a lot to like about his game. At 6-foot-3, the star infielder towers over most of the players who share his position.
Add on a 190-pound frame with a mix of speed and power and it becomes clear why so much interest has been directed Piasentin’s way.

It wasn’t always that way though – he credits the Okotoks Dawgs Academy for helping him improve every aspect of his game.
“When I first got there last year, I was a completely different player than I am now.” Piasentin elaborated, “They helped me with my fielding, hitting, and my strength. They shaped me into the player you see today.”
While it will be the Futures Showcase’s first look at the new and improved Tim Piasentin (he did play last year as a part of Team Black), he hopes everyone will also see his love for the game.
“I’ve been playing baseball since I was five or six years old with my dad (Robert) coaching me. I’ve always loved the game and meeting people from around the country, seeing how good they all are. I love it all.”
Team New Blue will play their first two games on Wednesday. Their first is at 9:00 a.m. against Team Grey, then their second is against Team Royal at 6:00 p.m.
