Rosters for the 2017 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game -- 4 p.m. (ET) Sunday, July 9th at Marlins Park in Miami -- have been set by Major League Baseball.
The Futures Game, now in its 19th year, features the top Minor League prospects competing in a nine-inning contest as part of All-Star Sunday. The U.S. Team leads the all-time series, 11-7. Last year in San Diego, the World Team defeated the U.S., 11-3, snapping a six-game U.S. winning streak.
Major League Baseball, in conjunction with MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major League Clubs, selected the 25 players currently on each team. Each Major League organization is represented and players from all full-season Minor Leagues were eligible to be selected.
The teams feature 15 former first round draft picks (12 on U.S. Team and three on World Team, two of thhem Canadian), two players picked in Compensation Round A (both U.S. Team) and seven second round picks (six on U.S and one on World). Among the 14 first round picks, five were selected in the 2015 Draft, five in the 2016 Draft, four in the 2014 Draft and one in the 2012 Draft.
The World Team features players representing 12 different countries and territories outside the 50 United States. The Dominican Republic is represented by 10 players, followed by Canada (4), Cuba (3) and Colombia (2). The Bahamas, Brazil, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico and Venezuela are each represented by one player on the World Team.
In the event of a tie, a 10th inning will be played. The game will not go longer than 10 innings, regardless of the score. Players and coaches will be outfitted in special SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game caps and jerseys.
As part of its live All-Star Week programming, MLB Network will exclusively televise and MLB.com will live stream the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, with Matt Vasgersian, Mike Lowell, Heidi Watney and MLB.com prospect expert Jonathan Mayo on the call live from Marlins Park.
SiriusXM, the Official Satellite Radio Partner of Major League Baseball, will provide live play-by-play coverage of the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on MLB Network Radio (XM channel 89; Sirius channel 209) in addition to SiriusXM’s other comprehensive live coverage from Miami. The game will also be available to SiriusXM subscribers on the SiriusXM Internet Radio app for smart phones and mobile devices and online at SiriusXM.com.
The Minor League Baseball Umpires who will work the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game are Nate Tomlinson (home plate) of the Texas League, Erich Bacchus (first base) of the Eastern League, Jason Starkovich (second base) of the Pacific Coast League and Skyler Shown (third base) of the Southern League.
