June 2, 2023
Official Major League Baseball News Release
Reigning American League Most Valuable Player Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees has been named the American League Player of the Month presented by Chevrolet for May, and All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers has been voted the National League Player of the Month presented by Chevrolet for May.
Judge claimed his sixth career AL Player of the Month Award, previously winning in September/October 2022; July 2022; May 2022; September 2017; and June 2017. The four-time All-Star is now responsible for each of the Yankees’ last four Player of the Month Awards.
The last Yankees player other than Judge to take home the monthly honour was his teammate DJ LeMahieu in June 2019. Judge becomes the 13th player ever to win at least six Player of the Month Awards, and he matches Alex Rodriguez for the most in franchise history.
Freeman picked up his third career NL Player of the Month Award, and his first since joining the Dodgers prior to the 2022 season. He previously won with the Atlanta Braves in September of his 2020 NL MVP Award-winning campaign and in September 2016. Freeman is the first Dodgers player to be honoured since his former teammate Cody Bellinger in April of his NL MVP Award-winning 2019 season.
