Frobel, Hoy, Kusiewicz, MacQuarrie make Ottawa-Nepean Canadians HOF

Former Ottawa-Nepean Canadians RHP Peter Hoy (Cardinal, Ont.) speaks to the crowd Friday night at the Ukranian Hall in Ottawa.

A total of 23 former Ottawa-Nepean Canadians players and coaches have had the opportunity to go on to the pro ranks.

Four of them were inducted into the Canadians Hall of Fame as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations.

Inducted on the weekend were:

_ The first Canadians player to ever go pro, RHP Dave MacQuarrie, who pitched in the Montreal Expos system.

_ The only former Canadian to make the majors in Doug Frobel, who took over for Dave Parker in right field with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

_ A former major leaguer, who retired after pitching on the Fenway Park mound and came home to pitch for the Canadians, RHP Peter Hoy. He learned under the legendary coaches Jack Giffin and Brian McRobie.

_ And lefty Mike Kusiewicz, who won the ERA title his first year in the Colorado Rockies system, at class-A Asheville.

The others to be elected were C Cam Pelton (Nepean, Ont.), who played more than a decade with the Canadians and spent four years with the LeMoyne Dolphins, founder Art Nielsen and long-time coach Don Campbell. Campbell also had his No. 17 retired.
