Goldeyes' season ends with loss in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes 7-3 at Newman Outdoor Field Saturday evening to win the best-of-three American Association West Division Playoff Series two games to one.

The RedHawks scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie. Sam Dexter scored on Peter Maris’ single to right field to give Fargo-Moorhead a 4-3 lead before Leobaldo Pina drove in Christian Correa and Maris with a double to right-centre field that made it 6-3.

Fargo-Moorhead added a run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Correa brought Evan Alexander in with a single to right-centre field.

The RedHawks jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead on an RBI ground out to second base off the bat of John Silviano that scored Maris. Manuel Boscan followed with a two-run home run to right centre field.

The Goldeyes responded with a three-run inning of their own in the top of the third. First Michael Crouse (New Westminster, B.C.) drove in Reggie Pruitt Jr. with a single to left field, then Ian Sagdal hit a two-run home run down the right field line to tie the game at 3-3.

Joe Jones (1-0) – the second RedHawks reliever of the evening – was credited with the win. He did not allow a run or a hit in 1 2/3 innings while striking out a pair.

Tasker Strobel (0-1) was charged with the loss. He allowed two earned runs on three hits in 1 1/3 innings. He struck out three batters.

Freisis Adames started for the Goldeyes and overcame the three-run first with a solid performance, allowing just one hit after the opening inning, and retiring the last 10 batters he faced.

The RedHawks will now meet the Kansas City Monarchs in the West Division Championship Series which begins Monday in Fargo.
