Canisius baseball student-athlete Max Grant has been chosen as the 2020-21 Canisius Male Rookie of the Year, the athletic department announced on Friday.

Grant (Fredericton, N.B.) was selected as this year's recipient through a fan vote conducted on GoGriffs.com. The other nominees were Abbotsford, B.C., native Carlin Dick (baseball), Burlington, Ont., native Matt Duffy (baseball), Max Kouznetsov (hockey), Keegan Kozack (men's lacrosse) and Hunter Parucki (men's lacrosse).

Grant started in 26 of his 28 appearances for the Griffs during the 2021 season, splitting time at second base, third base and catcher.

A MAAC All-Rookie Team honoree, Grant posted a team-high .386 batting average with a double, two triples and 17 RBI. He also drew 18 walks and struck out just 12 times in 101 trips to the plate.

Grant capped his freshman season by being named to the All-Championship Team at the MAAC Baseball Championship after batting .556 (5-for-9) in the Championship Round at Fairfield in late May.
