The Okotoks Dawgs lost 14-12 to the Sylvan Lake Gulls in a 10-inning slugfest in front of 4,125 fans at Seaman Stadium on Thursday.

With the loss, the Dawgs drop to 27-8 on the season and fall one game behind the Gulls (29-8) who sit atop the Western Canadian Baseball League’s West division.

Hot off his selection to the WCBL All-Star Game, Connor Crowson (Okotoks, Alta.) had three hits - including a double - for the Dawgs. Fellow WCBL All-Stars Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.), Tucker Zdunich (High River, Alta.) and Logan Grant (Chestermere, Alta.) added two hits each. One of Grant’s hits was a home run, his third of the campaign.

The Dawgs also welcomed Ricardo Sanchez (Lamar University) back to the lineup. Batting second and starting at third base, Sanchez scored two runs.

On the mound, Cam Stephens (Linn-Benton Community College) started and eight Dawgs relievers would follow. Chase Tucker (St. Johns, Nfld.), Cade Herrmann (Bellevue University), Easton Corey (Linn-Benton Community College) and Ashton Luera (Oklahoma Wesleyan University) had scoreless outings for the Dawgs.

The Dawgs will continue their series with the Gulls at Seaman Stadium on Friday.
