Great Lake Canadians and Junior National Team alum Griffin Hassall (Newmarket, Ont.) has earned Academic All-Big 12 Second Team honours in his sophomore year at Kansas State University.

The Canuck right-hander was one of 13 Kansas State student-athletes on the 2020 Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Teams. The Wildcats had eight first-team selections and five second-team nods.

To qualify, student-athletes must have a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulative or in the two previous semesters.

On top of his academic excellence, Hassall also made two scoreless relief appearances for the Wildcats in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his freshman season at Kansas State, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-hander posted a 4.42 ERA and struck out 37 batters in 57 innings in 14 appearances, including 10 starts. His performance earned him a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.

Hassall, who honed his skills with the Great Lake Canadians and Junior National Team, also excelled in the classroom during his freshman year. He was on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in both the spring and fall of 2019.

He attended Bill Crothers Secondary School in Markham, Ont., and is majoring in Business Administration at Kansas State.
