February 27, 2020

In November 2019, Trail City Council approved a motion to name a field “Jason Bay Field” in its historic Butler Park, per the request of a local coalition comprised of Trail baseball and sports enthusiasts.

Led by longtime Trail baseball coach and high school teacher Luigi (Lou) DeRosa, the group wanted to acknowledge the successes of Bay, who was born and raised in the city and was a three-time major league all-star. Bay was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019.

This group is now attempting to raise money for signage for the field.

More information on how you can support the project can be found below.

Jason Bay Field Project

Trail City Council has approved in principle to include “Jason Bay Field” at Butler Park, per the request of a local volunteer committee comprised of Trail baseball and sports enthusiasts. The committee has expressed the importance of acknowledging the successes of Trail native Jason Bay who successfully played in the MLB (Major League Baseball) and who was recently inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.

Design concepts include an illuminated “Jason Bay Field” sign to sit above the existing scoreboard, and a "Jason Bay Field" sign to be placed on the exterior of the grandstand at Butler Park. The project is estimated at $50,000. The City of Trail has committed 60% of the total cost for the design and installation, and has asked the committee to fundraise the remaining 40%.

With your generous donation, the Jason Bay Field will become a reality. If you'd like to make a contribution, please see the donation levels below. Cheques can be made out to: Jason Bay Field Project and can be dropped off at Kootenay Savings Credit Union downtown Trail, or at Trail City Hall at 1394 Pine Avenue.
