Hoegler, Illing, Wintjes, Yang lead North Shore Jr Twins to title

The North Shore Jr. Twins capped an incredible season winning their third consecutive Provincial Junior Premier League championship Sunday. The Jr. Twins, coached by Josh Hundal, were repeat regular season champions with an impressive 45-3 record and finished the season 50-3.

Next on the Jr Twins list is a Western Canada championship which they will host starting Thursday.  Representing BC will be the Coquitlam Redlegs.

Baseball BC also held the Bantam Provincial tournament this weekend. It was a 10 team tournament with both BCPBL and BC Minor teams involved (eight BCPBL and two BC Minor). Again the North Shore Twins defeated the Langley Blaze for gold.

John Haar, a member of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St. Marys, has developed a strong organization with the NS Twins and over the last few years. In 2017, the Twins won the senior, junior, and bantam titles.

Final
Coquitlam Redlegs 4, North Shore Jr Twins   7

The Jr Twins showed they were the league’s best team this year, coming back from an early 3-1 deficit. The Redlegs showed great early defense, with a first-inning double play, CF Jack Yaremko making a great throw home in the second and 1B Giordanno Mezzomo making two highlight plays to end potential rallies.

The Jr Twins scored four runs in the fourth inning as Sawyer Henstridge and Kenny Sugi each knocked in runs for a 5–3.

Redlegs lead off hitter Giordano Mezzomo opened the sixth with a triple scoring on a past ball. In the bottom of the inning Jr Twins Lucas Yang plated a run with a fly ball and Gareth Wintjes doubled in a run padding the lead to 7-4.

Jr Twins Relief Pitcher Andrew Illing retired the final six Redlegs hitters to seal the championship.

The Redlegs built up an early 4-0 lead on a Williams Camacho Soto run-scoring single and  a run-scoring double by Justin Adamoski, who earned Game MVP honours.

In the fifth, Jr Athletics Conor Dojohn hit a two-run single and then they added six runs in the sixth. Dylan Eugster drew a bases Loaded walk, Dawson Head delivered a two-run single and Conor Dojohn had an RBI single for an 8 – 4 lead.

The Redlegs scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth as Jack Yaremko hit a scoring fly ball, Justin Adamoski had an RBI single, Williams Camacho Soto had a two-run single and Cassidy Watt drove in the go-ahead run with a double.

The A’s got the tying run on in the seventh, when Aidan Malish hit a lead off single. But he was caught attempting to steal second. Dylan Eugster followed with a BB, but Redlegs pitcher Justin Adamoski got the second out on a fly ball and ended it with a strike out.
