Quebec’s Mr. Baseball

Alexandre Bédard has been honoured yet again.

Last week, Bédard (Lévis, Que.) was elected a 2021 Division II first-team all-star in the NCAA Central region.

This honour is particularly rewarding because it’s based on voting held among the members of the American Baseball Coaches Association.

The Southwestern Oklahoma State University Bulldogs centre fielder has earned the following honours since the end of the season:

_ Voted player of the Year in the Great American Conference, an NCAA Division II loop.

_ Voted Southwestern Oklahoma State University Male Athlete of the Year.

_ Elected to the First All-Star Team of the Central Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

_ Obtained Honorable Mention honours at the unveiling of the All-United States team

And Bédard could earn more honours. He could be elected to the All-American All-Star Team and/or the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams, which will be unveiled later this month.

Game after game during the 2021 campaign, Bédard was the sparkplug for the Bulldogs. The 23-year-old finished with a batting average of .396 and had 10 doubles, five triples and six homers. In all, he had 65 hits and scored 57 times. He also walked 12 times and was hit by 14 pitches, which helped him finish with a .479 on-base percentage.

Bédard also placed second in NCAA Division II with 31 stolen bases, which set a school record.
