Humber Hawks try to build on triple crown season
Not since Roger Clemens in 1998 has there been this much talk about winning a triple crown.
Pitching for the Toronto Blue Jays, Clemens led the American League in wins, strikeouts and ERA. He won 20 games, had a 2.65 ERA and fanned 271 in 234 2/3 innings.
That season matched his 1997 season when he led with 21 wins, led with a 2.05 ERA and 292 whiffs in 264 innings. He was the first AL triple crown winner since Hal Newhouser with the 1946 Detroit Tigers.
Meanwhile, around town, the Humber Hawks are enjoying their triple crown season from last fall. The Hawks won the regular season league title, conference championship and national championship under coach Matt Ferreira.
