IBL announces semifinals schedules

The IBL semifinals are set.

Top-seed Welland will continue its title defence starting Thursday at home against Guelph. The Jackfish knocked off Kitchener in four games.

Welland hit .361 in the first round. Jonah Weisner batted .619, and Dawson Tweet had a home run and six RBIs. On the mound, nine Welland pitchers combined to post a 2.19 earned-run average.

Guelph hit .327 in its three-game sweep of Chatham-Kent. Conner Morro hit .500, while Andy Leader added two home runs and eight RBIs. Royals’ pitchers, led by Evan Grills’ complete-game gem, had a league-best 2.00 ERA.

In the other semifinal, Barrie hosts London on Thursday in Game 1.

Baycats’ shortstop Brandon Hernandez hit .643 in the Baycats’ sweep of Toronto. As a team, Barrie batted .388. Nolan Machibroda accounted for the Baycats’ lone longball of the quarter-final, and Hernandez had 10 of the team’s 35 RBIs. Barrie’s team ERA of 4.67 was fourth among first-round teams.

Eduardo De Oleo led the Majors with a .471 average. Both De Oleo and Victor Plaz hit a home run, and Byron Reichstein had a team-best four RBIs in the Majors’ four-game series against Hamilton. As a team, London batted .291 and pitched to a 5.91 ERA.
