Official Barrie Baycats News Release

BARRIE - The Barrie Baycats Baseball Club announced on Monday that they have signed pitcher Jaspreet Shergill for the 2021 season.

Shergill, 30, will enter his fourth stint with the Baycats when the Intercounty Baseball League [IBL] season kicks off in June.

The Woodbridge, Ont., native pitched for the Baycats in 2010 before playing for a mix of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Sydney Blue Sox of the Australian Baseball League, and the Ottawa Champions of the now-defunct Can-Am League from 2011 to 2015.

In 2016, Shergill returned to the Baycats and recorded an earned run average of 2.05 in 22 relief appearances en route to the Baycats three-peating as Jack and Lynne Dominico Cup champions that year.

From there, Shergill went pro once again, signing with the Quebec Capitales in 2017, where he recorded an earned run average of 5.60 in 24 relief appearances.

Shergill once again returned to the Baycats in 2018, recording an earned run average of 3.31 in 15 relief appearances en route to the Baycats repeating as IBL champions for a fifth time.

The two-time IBL champion says he cannot wait to return to the Baycats.

"I am excited to have this opportunity. I've always enjoyed being a Baycat and I am looking forward to taking the field with [Baycats manager Josh] Matlow and the rest of the new squad."

Matlow says adding a veteran arm such as Shergill's is a no-brainer.

"We are excited to have Jaz back in the organization. He is equally a great player and person and represents everything this organization stands for. We believe he will be a big piece to our pitching puzzle for the upcoming season as well as long-term. We like that’s he’s not only a former Baycat but a top local Canadian arm."
